Are there angels that guard certain places, like certain countries or lands or even oceans and lakes?

I’m sorry, I didn’t see anything in that article that answered my question.

The Catechism article there outlines the role of the Angels.

The Angel of a Lake? - I would not say such would normally be part of their role. They are though involved with the Salvation of Men and involved in the universe as the Angels of God. But I doubt that God places an Angel to “guard a lake”. Per se. But those on the lake have their angels…

One could though say that a Country (being a community of persons) can yes be given an Angel.

And I would imagine that an Angel could be 'assigned to guard a particular place".

I would imagine there are angels that guard oceans then. There are lots of people on oceans and people whose livelihood depends on them.

If you read up about the choirs of angels, one of them is listed as guarding the countries.
I found it on EWTN’s library site. I’ll see if I can find it. Nothing regarding oceans, as I recall.
Keep in mind, that people have Guardian angels…they go wherever you go. They are the ones charged with your spiritual and physical safety. No worries.
Angels are a great gift of God.

Genesis 3:24
After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

The personal Guardian angels of the sailors…et al.

Is there a deeper implication here you’re getting at?

No. Just a biblical example of an angel guarding a specific place. But I guess you are thinking more like a guardian angel than a security guard, right?

The children at Fatima were first visited by the Guardian Angel of Portugal who taught them certain ways of praying.

Genesis 3:24

So, for whom was this to protect or prevent from reaching the tree?

My understanding is that that is correct, at least insofar as certain ecclesiastical traditions are concerned, and at least with regard to countries. Dioceses and even individual parishes also have guardian angels. I’ve also heard that priests are given a second guardian angel, and that a sacramental marriage, upon being consecrated, likewise is given a family guardian angel.

… but again, these are probably small-t traditions that most folks don’t really know about these days, and I have no idea where I could point you in terms of a truly authoritative answer to this question. It’s not really a matter of Magisterial teaching, as far as I know.

(I learned the above from a Traditionalist priest who has certain things he’s posted online. I won’t give his name out, however, because, even though he is loyal to the Magisterium, I do consider him slightly problematic, as he has perhaps a slightly schismatic attitude at times. I’m not completely decided on him. I’m just mentioning this to at least somewhat reveal my source.)

No. The CCC makes it clear that guardian angels protect and guide people. It says nothing about protecting places.

He’s not talking about Guardian angels…he’s talking about angels that guard. Different’
Other choirs/ranks of angels do other things.
This ETWN Library article speaks about principalities guarding countries.

It’s derived from tradition.
Also this from Aquinas:

Other theologians including St. Clement and St. Gregory the Great noted that every country, city, town, village, and even family has its own special Guardian Angel.

I have a hard time believing that…I can understand when people die, of course, people will say it was their time to go, so the guardian angel would not get in the way of God will, ok, that explains death, but where is the guardian angel of those kids who have been stolen right out of their beds, kidnapped, sexually abused, tortured? What protection are the guardian angels providing them?

Where are the guardian angels of some elderly people who are abused, tortured, and cannot do anything about it?

In short there is no Church teaching that says any kind of angel protects countries or locations. I am only interested in what the Church teaches.

That’s fine. I’m keenly interested in what Aquinas and the Church Fathers say.
Others may be as well.
I was answering the OP.

Fine but these are not Church teachings. Remember Aquinas did not believe in the Immaculate Conception. When it comes to beliefs and teachings everyone should stick firmly to what the CHURCH actually teaches instead of speculating about things it does not teach.
