I’m a Traditionalist Catholic looking to purchase a 1962 Daily Missal. The two which seem the best are those published by Angelus and Baronius Press. I know that Angelus Press is the publishing arm of SSPX and I know that there are a great mant hostile to SSPX. Frankly I do sympathize with them, but do not have any desire to start another thread based on them. So based purely on the written contents and material used in publishing, which missal is the better buy; the Baronius Press Daily Missal or the (Genuine leather edition) Angelus Press Missal?

The Angelus Press Missal is more popular, because it is more easier to read. It is clearer. THe Baronius Press missal has more content, especially supplements to special Masses in various countries. The Baronius Press Missal is cheaper by $3. Otherwise, there arent much differences! They are very similar! Hope I have helped, though I doubt I have! 🙂

I was worried that I had purchased the missal from Angelus. I do symphathize with SSPX, but if they refuse to work or re-join the Church then they loose my sympathy no questions asked. But enough of that. I have been reading my missald and I have yet to find anything that contradicts or goes against the Church. In fact there is one page that speaks about Eucahrist fast and has both the traidtional practice and the one after 1983. I did notice that on the Rosary they only explain to traditional Rosary and exclude prayers like the Fatima prayer, which is fine and I have no problem with that. Other than that it looks very faithful to the Church.

I was able to purchase the Baronius Press 1962 Missal at a discount, about $15 below the Angelus Press Missal, having no other prejudice it was an easy choice.

I love the translations, the grammar and vocabulary are elegant although some common prayers such as the prayer to St. Michael are worded slightly different than the standard American wording. I have no problem with the organization, normal amount of flipping from the Ordinary to the Proper. The font is perfect, crisp and of a readable size. What illustrations there are are beautiful although strictly black and white. The common prayers are all those I usually use. I don’t have a use for the National variations for England and Scotland, actually one for Canada might have more useful here in the US.

I like the real leather cover and the binding seems very well done, ribbons are secure.

No buyer’s remorse here.

I really love my Angelus Press edition of the 1962 missal. Its my favorite (I have over 7 other TLM missals). My only experience with Baronius Press is with a DR Bible. The gold leaf on the cover was flaking off right after I got it. (not a good thing).

I have both and I wish I could get my money back on the Baronius Press one. The ribbons are already falling apart and the formatting is hard on the eyes. The commentary blends in with the other text and it’s just plain bulky. The Angelus Press fits well in my hands, the ribbons are better quality and the text is formatted better (neater) and is easier to read. Baronius is clumsy and chunky. Also, the Baronius gilding is coming off already - and it’s a year newer than my Angelus Press one.

Besides that they’re based upon the same source and contain the same pictures, text, etc. Except for some of the devotionals.

As far as having scruples of supporting the SSPX’s publishing company - it doesn’t seem to bother EWTN who sells some of their books.

Does the Angelus Press missal include Vespers and Compline for all Sundays and major feasts?

This is a nice feature of the Baronius one, especially since in my parish we are trying to establish Vespers for every Sunday.
