If one wants to receive instruction in anger management due to anger at previous uncorrected injustices, is it better to take an anger management class with others or meet privately for private coaching? So many people are angry these days so is there stigma related to anger management classes?

I hope there’s no stigma, because I have developed the need for such classes myself.
Or rather, circumstances way beyond my ability to deal with,
have put me in a situation where I am either nearly always angry, or
become wildly (though not without due cause) angry at almost the drop of a hat.

SUCH ANGER is not good.

By the way, sometimes people quote Jesus as saying “Whoever is angry with his
brother is liable to the Judgment.” I guess that depends on which gospel you quote,
because I’ve also, many times, heard him quoted as saying
“He who is angry at his brother WITHOUT CAUSE shall be liable to the Judgment.”
That’s a whole nother meaning.
Some might ask, well WHO would be angry without (just) cause?
We all know: plenty of people.
We all have someone in our lives who is and has been, absolutely LIVID at us,
and won’t let it go, over some perceived slight that you and I are not even aware of
having committed, and they won’t even tell us WHAT it IS.
So there are PLENTY of people who are angry at their
brothers (and sisters) “without cause.”

I don’t think Jesus was forbidding ALL anger, do you?
Even Righteous Anger?
If that were the case, it would SEEM that he was
telling us to let evil people and thugs run roughshod over everybody
with no consequences.
I surely don’t think he meant THAT, do you?

ps: I’m gonna be really damned MAD if somebody doesn’t reply to my questions.
… (LOL, just kidding).

By the way, so as not to have strayed too far off topic,
IF you are aware that your anger is becoming a serious problem for
you and your life and for those around you,
then BY ALL MEANS get help.
Classes? Maybe.
First talk to your priest. AS A MATTER OF CONFESSION, bring it up as part of your confession so that it’s under the Seal, because casual conversations aren’t under the seal. If it’s not under the Seal, he might talk about it with someone, they might (without him intending them to) blab it to the wrong people, causing YOU to end up VERY embarassed.

If your priest can’t give you some guidelines, then see about free mental health clinics in the area, and ask them to recommend a course of action.
TAKE the classes if they’re available and feasible, by all means.
And pray like crazy for GRACE to subdue the anger.
And hint: the prayers WON’T work RIGHT AWAY (and that makes me so MAD).

If you are comfortable talking about personal issues in front of strangers, then classes may be the way to go for you. If you are a more private type of person and really need the complete attention of a counselor, than you should go with private sessions. No one needs to know if you are taking anger management classes, it is up to you if you want to share that information and deal with the consequences, good or bad.
