I’ve changed the minds of some of my friends…slowly. I’m the only Catholic out of my small group of friends. Most of them considered themselves non-denominational Christians and one is a Missouri Senate Lutheran.
I believe that is ‘Missouri Synod,’ my friend. Might check it.

Yes, thanks for the correction. 😊 I got three hours of sleep after revising a few of my final papers and completely missed that. Yes, she is the member of the Missouri Synod, Sorry, I came off ignorant. I know the differences and similarities of the Missouri Synod, WELS, and the ELCA. I just got finished taking a theology class taught by a ELCA minister, who made sure we knew all about Lutheranism in the United States. Apparently, the spelling isn’t too ingrained when you’re running on insufficient amount of sleep though. 😊

You know a lot more than I do about that stuff than I do, but I guess, since Senate was spelled correctly, splchk wouldn’t have caught it anyway, lol! Does someone have a good syntax and usage check app?

I see a lot of the same anger towards Orthodox as well, though not as badly, since many here in the West don’t know that much about us. I belong to a Christian board that has sub boards for all the different Christian churches. They do have a general theology board (on the Orthodox sub board, we call it the General Heresies or Heresies R Us board). The Catholics and Orthodox get accused of being idolators (for using icons or statues–Orthodox use icons) and worshipping Mary and saints. We can argue all we want that we are not doing any such thing (as veneration is very different than worship), but, of course, they know much better than we do about what we are doing and what is in our hearts. One of the sub boards of the general theology section is a Mariology and Hagriography board. The things that are said about the Theotokos is just incredible. The ugly things that are said about her is enough to make you want to throw up. I want to remind them that they are speaking about our Lord’s mother. Personally, I don’t want to have to answer to Him on Judgment Day for saying such ugly things about His mother! I’ll have enough to answer for already without that. His Mother means a lot to me. My mother died 22 years ago, and the Theotokos has filled a hole in my life.

There are reasons for this ignorance. Many do not study the Old Testament. Christ is King. Christ is Lord. We belong to the Kingdom. What Kingdom? The OT reveals the prototype of the Kingdom. If study of the OT kingdom of David, Solomon, Priests, The Queen Mother were undertaken and translated to an understanding of the Kingdom we are in then there would not be such ignorance. The subjects that are part of the Kingdom do not understand that to which they claim to belong and that they denigrate.👍
