The statement was leaked in advance, so they went ahead and released it. I find this part to be the most telling:
  1. It is our unanimous desire to walk together. However given the seriousness of these matters we formally acknowledge this distance by requiring that for a period of three years The Episcopal Church no longer represent us on ecumenical and interfaith bodies, should not be appointed or elected to an internal standing committee and that while participating in the internal bodies of the Anglican Communion, they will not take part in decision making on any issues pertaining to doctrine or polity.

We shall see how this plays out. Many Episcopalians will be very upset and some may see this as liberating, but I’m afraid a stand for biblical and traditional views on sexuality needed to be taken.

Do you see this as more of a “slap on the wrist?”
Likely. It is tentative, in that the 3 year period was set to allow the suspension to run through the next TEC General Synod, to see if anything of a move to orthodoxy might arise from that. Unlikely, IMO. And then the issue will need revisiting. And there all will be again. There’s a Gary Larson cartoon that comes to mind.

The ACoC was considered a partner in error, by the orthodox there, but escaped judgement since they were not on record as changing the marriage canons, province-wide, just thinking about it real hard. Right now.

Interesting to see how TEC would play, reduced to observer status. If that, in fact comes about.

Sorry the gracious Katherine was not enthroned to receive the honor.

So is this a schism or not? It kind of sounds like a politely worded breakup, which is why I am asking. Number 7 seems like a pretty bold statement, but I could just be confused.

Not really enough information yet to draw a full conclusion. What happens at the end of 3 years is the question on everyone’s mind. I suspect it won’t go well for TEC if they choose not to repent, since it seems they have lost any and all voting privileges. A full excommunication could be waiting for them in 2019. That is, if they don’t choose to just up and leave, which could be a real possibility.

No, it’s not a schism, nor a breakup. It’s another line in the sand in front of TEC. Wait 3 years and see what happens next.

Unless TEC, in an infuriated righteous reaction, bolts the stable.

I don’t think that will happen.

I’m a bit confused as to why the ACNA isn’t recognized yet as part of the communion, but GAFCON remain a part? What is the motive behind this?

This.

And has Archbishop Beach said anything publicly yet?

GAFCON is just a parallel “communion” of sorts among the conservative provinces. All of which are full communion members, except for the ACNA. ACNA is a full GAFCON member.

We know very little about this gathering, as it is supposed to all be done in secret. As we can tell, things leak.

I think they will probably wait the 3 years for TEC to repent before giving ACNA full Anglican Communion status.

Are you saying that the ACNA is secretive?
No, I’m saying this primates gathering is supposed to be secretive. We won’t know all the details until after it is over. And we probably won’t know all of what was discussed.

Items that were predicted to have been on the agenda were never brought forward, sources tell Anglican Ink. The status of the Anglican Church in North America remains unresolved, as it was never brought before the meeting for discussion. However, Archbishop Foley Beach was given voice and vote throughout the gathering. However, he declined to participate in the vote on sanctioning the Episcopal Church, his aides tell us, as he believed that would have been improper.
So we have further delay on the matter. As a full participant, it seems the ACNA is moving closer in that direction.

If then. And since 2 Churches can/t formally be the representative to the Communion from the same area, that would mean…

I think TEC’s unrepentance is a given. I think in 3 years, TEC is excommunicated, but I think they will leave before that happens. Either way, ACNA is the new representative to the Communion from the US. Being given a full voice and full voting privileges for the entire gathering can only send one signal.
