you want fries with that sneer sir? 😉

perhaps it occurred to them that rethinking christianity from scratch has been a disaster within three generations in every community in which it has been tried. Maybe they’ve figured out there could be a reason for that. Nah, they must just be weaklings.
Which sneer was that?

]The TAC, priests who go to Rome, if any , are quite free to do so, but mark well friend, if they do they ,in some way, turn their back on the Church Catholic. The Body of Christ here on earth! They leave it to join a man made institution, that has caused great unrest in the world, which propagates false doctrine, is a cause of schism and has very little of Holy Tradition! They go why? Because there has been unrest in a Church some two thousand years old? What is new about that ? Will they be purging themselves of some great fault or is it that , as my aunt puts it, they are indeed weaker sisters, who cannot stand the heat of the kitchen without a mantle to lean on? Rejecting Christ! For that is what they are doing. Two thousand years of Sacxraments, and missionary endevour cast aside because these people have not absorbed thee teachings of their faith, preferring to flaunt the trappings and eschew the teaching of the Cross!

Be aware, Justy, that you can easily find Anglicans who affirm transubstantiation, in the terms of Trent, Session XIII.

But never-the-less, whilst many of the Anglo Catholics do accept the idea of Transubstantiation, it was not initially an Anglican concept, being of itself a medieval intrusion.**

Most Anglicans seem to hold to some kind of “Real Presence” however it’s not necessarily a metaphysical change in the elements, and most Anglicans are very much Eucharistic in their worship.

I’ve been going to ACNA and Continuing parishes (even visiting a TEC/ECUSA parish a few times). I’ve thought about swimming the Tiber or Bosporous but honestly either Rome has too many dogmas to accept and too much history to buy into, or you are dealing with a very “Eastern” style of worship, even if Orthodox mystical theology makes alot of pragmatic sense (it’s like a less modernistic version of process theology mixed with a healthy suspicion of rationalism). But I do think of myself as more Catholic/Orthodox in sentiment/piety than Reformed. And there’s something nice and cozy about Anglicanism, and occasionally I do find myself reverting to more Evangelical type ways of thinking/being.

Thank you for stating this. This is precisely my point.

Yup, that’s pretty much what I thought. You’re the equal and opposite of catholics who say Anglicanism can be dismissed immediately since its only reason for existence was to allow Henry VIII to get the divorce he wanted…

Good luck with that.
