I was not aware that central fl James determined how God wanted to be worshiped. Did he tell you that protestants worshiped wrong? Apostolic succesion ? True christians really and others are not ? Your statements alone and the tone of them tell me you have a great deal to learn about being a christian. I am a Lutheran and I am just as much a christian as you. Who are you to define who is christian and who is not.? I guess you determine who gains salvation " just because your catholic do you think your headed straight to Heaven and Protestants are going to________ (Fill in the Blank)

You know I am glad I left The RCC everday if is you or righteousone or Backwoods Blues You seem to all have an attitude about you. ( check out their posts scary) Wow How arrogant!!!
But God did tell us how he wanted to be worshipped. It was all prefigured in the Old Testament. Observe how Cain’s worship was rejected and Abel’s was accepted. Observe how the concepts of the sacrifice were established by the Jewish priestly clans and how that was ratified by Jesus as a Pascal Lamb sacrificed on the cross. Recollect the OT phrase “you are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek”. Only Catholic and Orthodox priests are members of this highest priestly order and have a succession that was ordained by Jesus himself built on Peter.

Jesus warned us about teachings of men and false teachers that would come years after he established His Church. Protestants have come onto the scene 1500 years after Christ and completely invented new religions and new forms of worship that were never practised by the Jews nor the disciples nor the early Church.

I challenge you to turn your pretentious comments around from the other perspective and see the hypocrisy. Did God tell you to worship by being disobedient to His Church and to invent new traditions of men and to give authority to yourselves to make your own religious ministers and fabricate rites? The priesthood has always been a special reserved calling. In the time of the Jews it was a special birthright of first born limited to only a single priestly lineage all through history (Aaronic). The order of Melchizedek replaces it and is superior to it as the only order to bless Abraham.

Why do Protestants think that anyone with a Bible can go to a protestant theology “school (of error”), open up a new bible-church and call themselves a minister of God? What right and what authority do you people think you have?

Make no mistake about it Lutherans are heretics. Some will be saved by the grace of baptisms that flows through from Christ through His Mystical Body (The Catholic Church). It is possible that those so baptised will be saved if they remain free of mortal sin. But you have no way to be forgiven of your sins because you have no sacramental repentance nor any authority to forgive sins. Only a priest of God, a Catholic Priest, ordained through the channel of authority conveyed through the apostolic succession has such power to release sins. Also Lutherans are in profound disagreement and error with Christ’s teachings and commit blasphemies every Sunday in their assumption to have the authority to convert the bread and wine into the eucharist. You simply do not have valid priests nor valid rites nor any priestly authority whatsoever. You have rejected Christ’ Church and in so doing have rejected Christ.

Do you think Christ will listen to anyone who completely disobeys His vicar and authority on earth? There is no way to run around The Catholic Church.

And no just being “Catholic” does not guarantee anyone salvation. There are plenty of sinners in the Catholic Church that are not repentant and are not following the teachings. These will only be saved by intercession of others in the Church (both on earth and in heaven) if at all. But no Protestants of adult mind, and conscously against the Catholic Church and in a state of mortal sin will be saved if they die impenatent. It is my duty to tell you that because it is the truth. That is “tough love” but it needs to be said because it is very likely that hundreds of millions of “Christians” in name only ever since the Protestant Revolution are going to hell. We Catholics do pray for non-Catholics though that Jesus will extend His Mercy at your hour of death. We can only hope that Jesus hears our prayers. But if you want a guarantee of forgivness you need to come back to the Catholic Church and go to confession where a real ordained priest of God acting as Jesus representative can forgive you those sins.

James

Except for universal grace for conversion all grace flows through The Catholic Church. Grape juice remains grape juice and crackers remain crackers in the few Protestant assemblies that try to emulate the sacraments.
Protestants have access to baptismal grace and perhaps marriage grace and can benefit from this until such time they commit a mortal sin or lose their infallible ignorance status. But those becoming obdurate and consciously rejecting The Catholic Church or those becoming belligerent or hostile to The Catholic Church even in partial ignorance to persecute the Church commit a mortal sin since hate is contrary to all aspects of Christianity and natural law and conscience.

Boy that puts a huge weight on the catholic church with all the wrong that has been done through out the ages.
The 2 Popes at a time,
the It’s our turn to have a Pope.
The cardinals who have gone agains the Pope
The amount of Mafia found in the church in Italy.
Throughout the dark ages, the reneisence, the taking of people to death because it didnt suit,
The giving of wrong amounts of money to artists for work worth much more.
Excuse my saying but the amount of priests with relationships hidden by the church,
Think of this
In my catholic bible Jesus told the diciples that any person giving praise to and doing works healing or other in Jesus name could not, yes NOT be against Jesus.

So, how is it that a person in this day and age who does much works to help the poor, praises Jesus, wishes to have Jesus in communion, is not in line with what is expected by God.

The saboth was it not made for man NOT man made for the saboth. So a person doing good works on the saboth and wishing to receive Jesus in communion, surely Jesus will come to this person, how they believe.
My God is a god of mercy, compassion, peace and love.

I don’t have the word “saboth” in my bible. Can you please tell me what one you are using and while you are at it what history book as you reading? But if you mean “sabbath” why not ask yourself why you do not go to Church on the sabbath rather than on Sunday? The answer is because you are following the traditions of The Catholic Church who changed the days of worship to demonstrate that the Old Law was fulfilled and to honor Jesus and to demonstrate that The Catholic Church had a greater authority with Jesus as it’s head.

Also, your logic needs a bit of polishing up. No individual member of the Catholic church is by themselves impeccable. The Church has never claimed this. Therefor you can not attribute the actions of a few individuals to the whole Catholic Church anymore so than you can attribute the apostle Peter’s thrice denial of Christ to Jesus or the rest of the apostles. And besides all of that it has nothing to do with the OP about non-Catholic Eucharistic miracles; something you are conspicuously silent about.

But let me make a small correction. God is God. **God is not your God ** as if you can own Him personally or make Him into something you are comfortable with. God is God of all of Creation. You can not wish nor desire Him to be created in the manner of how you would personally like Him to be. And thank goodness since that would mean you could make the same error you just made about the Catholic Church and attribute to God all the individual errors of humanity since He was afterall the one responsbile for creating us in the first place.

You have cited a scriptural reference without having a sufficient understanding of scripture. In so doing you have conveniently demonstrated precisely why sola scriptura and fundamentalism is utter folly and a false doctrine of man. The Church teaches - The Bible does not teach itself and there is no such thing as private interpretation outside The Church. Context and teaching authority are everything.

Yes, God is Merciful but God is also perfectly Just. Never forget that.

Though some scriptural references sometimes sound deceptively simple, the teachings of Jesus contain many layers of meaning and wisdom. Let’s take your interpretation of “who is not against us is for us” as a license to have a legion of Christian faith to show how absurd this is.

There are a total of four occurrences in which Jesus would appear, to the ears of a child, to be saying the same thing in two different ways. In Matthew 12:30 and Luke 11:23, He says: “He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” However, in Mark 9:40 and Luke 9:50, He makes two statements that are almost identical in every way except that they are stated in the positive and appear in the second and third person instead of the first. In Mark 9:40, He says: “For he who is not against us is for us.” And in Luke 9:50, He says: **“He who is not against you is for you.” **So then, if we were to turn our simple and naive minds on these statements, we would find them true enough: if somebody isn’t for you, then he is against you; what is more, if he is not against you, he is for you. But if we merely read these passages like children—or if we even examined them as single sentences stripped from their surrounding narratives—we would have missed a much deeper truth. What if, when encountered in context, the difference between a positive and negative sense (much more so than first, second, or third person) had a very significant impact on meaning?

If someone is doing good works, doing God’s will, then, in a sense, they are on the same side, they are allies, they are “for you” implicitly (though perhaps not explicitly). These individuals may not have been part of Jesus’ inner circle or even disciples of Jesus or believers that he was the Messiah, but they did believe that people were healed/delivered through/by him, and so used his name to cast out demons. The[y] did show a respect for Jesus, some acknowledgement of Jesus, just as those who said he was a prophet, a holy man from God, a rabbi, the Messiah, were all according him respect and clueing in to pieces of the puzzle. [note: more info here].

So how do YOU reconcile the other bible verses above that contradict yours? This whole thing about those outside the faith not being against us is a lesson on “proper attitude” one should have of those outside the faith. Nothing more - the hope is that they will take their partial truths and seek full communion with the full true faith.

I don’t want to hijack this thread on a more detailed exegesis of this one passage you cite but consider that your interpretation does not reconcile with many other passages in the bible either.

Namely:

**Luke 10:16
The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.

John 6:53
Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink of His blood, you have no life in you. **

Jesus was speaking to the Apostles with Peter as the leader (who becomes first pope of The Catholic Church).

Why do you reject The Catholic Church and in so doing substantially reject Christ? This seems inconsistent with your personal philosophy that we can all be a big smorgasbord of “roll your own” faiths and hold hands and sing Kumbaya together in our salvation. Did Jesus lie when He told us that you must eat of His Body and drink His Blood? Do you think those that gave Jesus lip-service like Simon Magus and who were infatuated with Jesus’ power and used His name as if it were a magic chant to cast out demons were really followers of Christ and received eternal life? How could they if they were disobedient to Christ and never truly converted to the apostolic teachings?

This is hyperbole and a strawman argument. Why don’t you give the courtesy of answering some of the questions I asked you rather than cower behind rhetoric? I answered your questions.

Are you now asserting that you believe in fate? Do you know you own fate? Do you have any choice in the matter?

Not being Catholic IS NOT rejecting Christ Rejecting Christananity is Rejecting Christ and you do not have to be Catholic to be a christian. And as for your response to my post maybe fate was a poor chose of words but who are you to tell myself or anybody for that matter who is and who is not going to purgatory ? You claim that Protestants are going to hell. How do you know that? Strawman?? why the threating tone in your posts if that is the RCC way then just how christian is that ? I do not have time for this now so If I do not respond for a while do not pat yourself on the back thinking you won some contest or something there is no quota for turning a catholic back into a Roman Catholic. Must Go

Luke 10:16 directly contradicts your opinion here:

The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.

Catholicism is ALL of Christianity. One can not subdivide Christ against Himself to invent “Christianity” from a legion of optional portions. One can not sprinkle in one’s own private interpretations and wishful thinking as if seasoning to personal taste to create a super-buffet of optional tastes and flavors and “have it your own way”. Christ can not be seperate from His Church - which is and always has been The Catholic Church from the earliest days. Go back and read John 6:66 to see an example of those those who turned their back on Christ when they could not accept all of His teachings (e.g. about receiving the Eucharist). That is what Protestants have done.
And as for your response to my post maybe fate was a poor chose of words but who are you to tell myself or anybody for that matter who is and who is not going to purgatory ? I did not say all Protestants are going to Hell anymore so than I said that all Catholics are going to Heaven. I have simply warned what those who reject all of Christ’s teaching and the teachings of His Catholic Church are facing if they die impenitent and in mortal sin. You as a former Catholic who has turned his back on his church should know how common it is in modern life for people to commit mortal sin (adultery, lustful thoughts and deeds, heresy, inducing others to commit grave sin, abortion, fornication etc.). A person baptised into Christ outside of the Catholic faith who commits one of these sins has NO WAY to be given a guarantee sacramental forgiveness of sin. ONLY the Catholic Church, through the apostolic authority to forgive sins has the priestly authority of Christ himself to release sins or hold them bound. Guess what that means. Sins are by default held bound if they are not repented for and asked for forgiveness. **Why would Christ give the authority to forgive sins to His Church if it was possible for men to go around the Church and ask God to forgive them? ** That would be a frivolous and insincere authority and a waste of precious grace for Jesus to give to His Church authority to forgive sins if no one needed it would it not? Of course it would. This implies that one MUST come to The Church to gain access to Christ’s forgiveness of sins.

So, my statements about most Protestants being in grave danger of going to hell is VERY REAL since among all the other mortal sins most of us commit in today’s very sinful world and environment the conscious rejection of the Catholic Church is heretical and itself a mortal sin (again ref: Luke 10:16). Those who were born into Protestant faiths and have not consciously rejected The Catholic Church have a better excuse than those who have left it - but its still very very thin ice to be on without a valid sacramental forgiveness of sins. We Catholics however do hope and pray that Christ’s Divine Mercy (see my signature link) will supernaturally intervene in the souls of non-Catholics and compel a supernatural “desire for conversion and forgiveness” before death.

So, as a Catholic it is my duty to tell you all this since this is a serious matter with eternal consequences. My tone is serious (but not hateful and not individually judgemental) only because I would not want my worst enemy to go to hell for eternity. Most people are living under a false belief that it is easy to get to heaven since everyone these days preaches that Jesus is merciful and God is loving. The big lie is everyone can expect God to overlook all our sins - even the grave ones. This is WRONG and a deception of Satan. No one falls into heaven by accident or by simple wishful thinking because God is also a Just God. We know from scripture (and from the revelation of the saints who see visions) that most souls, including those who call themselves Christian do not make it to heaven. Jesus told us this:
matthew 7:13-14:
13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Luke 6:46-49:
46 “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 “But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Matthew 7:21:
"Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
In other words - one must be a Christian not just in name but in deed (e.g. doing the will of the father) in the manner that one is called; and one MUST obey ALL of Christ’s teachings.

No, I am not patting myself on the back and I am not here to collect quotas. This is not about quotas - its about doing what God commands me to do. I am simply wanting to make sure you are not making a grave mistake. Nor do I want to hear God tell me on my day of judgement "since you did not warn your brother about the truth I gave you and which you yourself believed I hold you responsible for his soul - now join him in hell’.

So since we are our brother’s keeper and because we are commanded to love our neighbor we are all in this together - like it or not.

James
