Well, standing waist deep in water, and pouring over the head, saying I baptise you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Sounds like a valid baptism to me.

Or, if pouring is not used, then immersion while saying the words, sounds like a valid baptism.

Am I missing something?

Actually I was immersed, but of course that doesn’t affect validity one way or the other. I will never forget that wall of water closing over my head, though. I fully believe in the validity of infant baptism and of pouring as a method, but those of us who were immersed after reaching the age of reason (if you can really call 18 an age of reason with all those hormones racing around!) do have a cool memory the rest of you don’t!

Possibly the importance of Faith.

The form used would be satisfactory without doubt for an infant.

An adult who submitted to a form of non-Catholic Baptism might well have to be conditionally Baptised. But that would have to be decided on its merits by a competent priest.

I will leave Edwin’s case to that person on the happy day he decides to become a Catholic.

I will not be returning to this thread to discuss Baptism in general.
