I have a friend who is a confirmed Catholic now attending an Anglican parish. (I sympathize somewhat as his reason is that he prefers the greater reverence in their liturgy - how sad that he has a point!)
Anyway, I have had to inform him that, despite what they say, these priests cannot be regarded as true priests of Christ because there is no apostolic succession. The anglican church (quite intentionally) abandoned AS after splitting with the See of Peter, and so their holy orders is simply not valid and their sacrament is not valid.
Unfortunately I am extremely short on time and am not finding good documents to support this assertion (which I do think is obvious) - could somebody help me out?
(I’ve told him that this church is in partial but imperfect communion with the full Church, and that while the worship may be fulfilling, and the Holy Spirit is present to some degree, he is better off in a Catholic parish with a Eucharist consecrated by a Catholic priest.)
