I have to say that the whole “Tiber Swim Team Class of ____” thing is not funny anymore and it’s getting annoying as heck!

There seems to be a number of things such as this that get beat into the ground here for reasons that are not very charitable from what I have seen.

I agree it’s trite. But “annoying as heck”? Really?

What surprises me is that I haven’t seen any spin-offs, e.g. “Thames Swim Team”. (I toyed with the idea of putting “Internet Swim Team” in my signature, but decided to go with the more straight-forward “Internet reformer”.)

I think we should take our lead from the Pope and pray for them. I am sure many people could lose their faith over this…Look how mass attendance dropped over our scandals

I feel very sorry for them…I think they are good people…they gave us Cardinal John Henry Newman, yes he converted but the Anglican church formed his faith in the beginning…They are doing stellar work with Walsingham Shrine

at first i didn’t understand what you meant, then i realized you were referring to vaccination!! LOL very funny!

i don’t know why, but i get bored watching the olympics. i like watching the opening ceremonies. if the announcers would just stay quiet for a little bit, but they just talk and talk and talk, giving me way more information than i need.

I think though that you are probably meaning that some subject or relevancy have a tendency to be “clubbed to death ad nauseum”… though that seems to be the way of the world in internet forums.

Now… as far as the “Tiber Swim Team”… isn’t a negative comment about that “just a little trite”? I guess its an “identity thing”, so what?

Me, I was “Baptized” when I was 5 or 6 days old…over half a century ago…

I don’t think the concept of triteness really works in such a generalized way. That’s like saying, “People have been criticizing the papacy for centuries, so therefore criticizing the papacy is trite.” (Or “Criticizing America is trite.” Or “Making jokes is trite.” etc.)

Probably. Fortunately, a lot of people have a lot a tolerance towards nit-pickiness and over-sensitivity.

As a Nota Bene, I’m confused where there is a thread on this, coming from the same person who accused Catholics of always “playing the victim.”

I think Anglicans are “challenged” for their beliefs because they want to be the “via media” between Protestantism and Catholicism. However, they have always been aligned with Protestantism. You can’t have your cake and eat it, too! After this recent Lambeth Conference, their true colors have been shown. I continually pray for them to return to the Holy Catholic Church, from which all orthodoxy and unity flows.

I’m just sick of hearing “I crossed the Tiber in 200_.” It’s just getting annoying…Catholics are becoming memorizers of talking points and cliches from EWTN and Catholic Answers instead of coming up with their own stuff. Drives me nuts! Every protestant convert I know to Catholicism acts like a reformed smoker! They instantly want to convert everyone and brag about being on the Tiber Swim Team. LOL…

While I think you’re being a snob and I don’t like you shrugging at me, I have to give you some props for knowing about the baliset and “Dune.” Way to go! That being said, I value the original post very much. Does that mean I can’t make a simple point about something else?

There seems to be a very enticing urge to unload on the Anglican Communion at large for all of the social-political agenda mongers in the very most liberal minority primates of the Anglican Communion. Let me for the record just clarify one thing; the Anglican Communion does NOT teach that same sex unions are acceptable and it also does not teach that clergy involved in actively gay relationships is acceptable either. There are many more Anglicans in the world that hold true in these teachings and doctrines unchanged and Biblical than you could ever find to the contrary. Episcopalians have gone off the road and are headed for the cliff at a high rate of speed, no doubt about it in my mind. But they do not account for the majority of Anglicans worldwide. It is a fact that there are more Anglicans in church in a Sunday morning in Uganda than there are in all of the U.K.

You are right. I don’t know anything about the Anglican Communion. Here are some questions:

Which churches are members of the AC?

Do any members of the AC still see the king or queen of England as their leader?

Does the AC ever excommunnicate troublemakers?

I know the Catholic Church’s reasons for thinking the AC is not in communion with the Catholic Church, but what are the AC’s reasons?
