Anglicans; since you still call your selves Catholic, please tell me why.

It just puzzles me that you refer to yourselves as catholics, when you are clearly not with the Pope anymore.

What makes you even remotely Catholic?

Anglicans consider themselves catholics with a small C and, like the Orthodox, they do not believe communion with the Holy See of Rome is necessary to be a catholic. They believe in the creeds, the Ecumenical councils, the priesthood, sacramental theology, and apostolic succession. Anglo-Catholics are sometimes ‘more catholic than the pope’ using benediction, incense, Marian devotion, confession, and other catholic trappings. Anglicans consider themselves catholic and reformed.

Amen. And some Anglicans consider themselves, the Orthodox, some of the Old Catholics, and the Polish National Catholic Church, to be Catholic, large C, without regard to being in communion with Rome.

Oh, and the RCC is Catholic, too.

…you are a joker!

Perhaps this thread was a rather silly question but it’s just in relation to some of the responses I’ve had with some Anglicans I know. They all seem to have different opinions.

What is the difference between the Anglican CC and the Roman CC? What makes them different and what makes them similar?

No kidding. A motley crew, it appears.

Depends on which Anglicans you ask. What gurney said above represents the similarity, for those Anglicans he is describing.

But Anglicans are…what’s the phrase I want here…a motley crew.

It’s easier for me to do so than for anyone else. I know me best. But I’ve already changed my identity.

Brave and Bold.
I can actually imagine you as that penguin man…

The Church in Rome has never had a monopoly on the term “Catholic”. I’m not quite sure why you (the OP) expect protestants to honour such a thing.

What do you mean? My friend who is Anglican swears black and blue that she is catholic, but she is Anglican. She can’t seem to understand this.

It’s ok by me if he does, re: my own self. We know who I really am.

I am the Bookworm! And mine is the power of the printed word!

Many Anglicans would agree with you. But the point you don’t seem to grasp is that not everyone cedes to you or the RCC (or those in communion with Her) the exclusive use of the word.

I suppose that there is no way around this.

I think you over estimate my intensions for the word joker.

I know who you really are; you are the penguin!

P.S. Don’t complain if these images don’t load properly (I’m too old to do these things)!
