Anglicans want to defect to Rome

I am against re-alignment because I think that Anglicanism is so rich and diverse that there is something for everyone, high and low, gay and straight, male and female. I am also influenced by two very good Anglican friends of mine who are Anglican Rectors.

Outside from our friendship [strange we are friends] they both hate Rome and our clergy with a vengeance. One of my friends despises the Communion Rite so much that he delegates it to a curate. Now how can there ever be unity with such strong views?

We are good friends, we never discuss religion and therefore we never disagree. I have no problem accepting either of them because they are valued friends but I know they do struggle and are a bit disappointed that I am RC. Is ok. They are good guys. But I really do not feel that is any basis for re-union.

Better they keep what they have and we agree to meet in the local pub and share a pint of beer, that way we keep it friendly. They do not end up disappointed or offended.

I daerly love my faith but I do not want to see Anglican’s getting hurt 🙂

So the terrible divisions among them are not sufficiently hurtful to allow some to rightfully seek healing within their true home?! Apparently you do not love your faith enough to desire to have others find their solace in it.

I dearly love my faith but it is not for the squeamish. You have to be tough to be Roman Catholic.Think of all the offensive remarks that Roman Catholics make. Think of all the fights that go on in [what I guess is an average parish] I actually left the KSC because I just could not handle brothers squaring up to each other in meetings, shouting and hurling abuse etc etc.

I recall occasions during my life time when I have had to stay away from Mass because I have been under a lot of pressure at work and just have not been robust enough to cope with all the aggro that comes from being a passive parishioner.

I just do not want to see Anglican folk getting hurt

You have to have a skin as tough as a rhinosarus. You must not take anything that is said ‘personally’.

At one time, my wife banned me from going to mass because I went peacefully then came home all wound up and it took me all week to wind down again, only to go back for another round the following Sunday. There is nothing offensive in Catholicism, it is a religion of love, just that there are some pretty unloving catholics around.

I just do not want to see Anglican folk getting hurt. Once they come over to us and they find out what ‘day to day life’ is really like, where do they go then?

I have editted my original post as I do not want to hang our dirty washing out in public. There is nothing offensive in Catholicism, it is a religion of love, just that there are some pretty unloving catholics around.

I think this union of course brings joyce and worries to many. However, we should trust in the Lord for Him wanting the unity. He would not let us down as He promised that Satan couldn’t destroy the Church.

Pray and let God guide us.

What day to day life is?

Many probably already know since a decent amount of Catholics have fled the Church for Anglicanism after divorcing and remarrying. Besides, all Catholics cerainly aren’t as rabid as we tend to be on here.😃

I am a life-long committed practicing catholic.

But I will be the first to speak against Anglicans defecting to Rome.

We are different in culture. Anglicansim is just to rich and diverse to risk re=alignment with Rome. It is my hope it will never happen
You must be either the devil or completely off your rocker to hope against people entering the ark of salvation.

Sixtus, it is not a picnic bench with varieties of food that we are discussing but the Church of God.

I see little diversity within Anglicanism that may be regarded as legitimate.

Female priests and gay bishops are good examples of what is wrong with the Anglican communion.

God Bless!

Well I have personal friends who are Angllicans Methodists and Anglican Rector’s. I would be so embarrassed if they saw the sorts of unacceptable behaviour which passes as ‘normal’ at the Ark of Salvation.

My Dear Sixtus,
I do not understand what you mean here. I came over from the Protestant Episcopal Church about 14 years ago and I have not experienced any pain other that sadness over leaving so many good people behind. In the Episcopal Church the Prayers of the People include a prayer for the holy catholic church. The congregational response is “that we all may be one”. I took that prayer seriously then and I still do. I believe that most members of the Anglican Communion that want to come over are as fed up as I was with the liberal ideas that water down the faith. I will rejoice with them when they come home.🙂

My dear saayra

I often post to stimulate discussion. This is a very real issue. It is iminent ‘praise God’. But we need to sharpen up our act if we are to defend it.

I merely provoke to stimulate healthy debate. Fear not, I am on your side 👍

I am afraid that I am somewhat of a sceptic about the idea of unification between the Anglican Churches and Rome…at least anytime soon. Despite recent developments in Tanzania, I think that the drift of the Anglican Communion over the last 80 years has been away from the Catholic position and towards a different understanding of the Gospel. There may very well be dissatisfied Anglo-Catholics that individually convert, but many other conservative Anglicans are more evangelical than Catholic.

I’ll tell you what…if the Catholic Church is serious about trying to draw Anglicans to Rome then they should make the Anglican Use more available to the people. Every diocese that has a large element of conservative Episcopalians in its midst could/should have an Anglican Usage parish. See what happens. In a country as large as the US, with 2 to 3 million Anglicans/Episcopalians, having only 6 or 7 Anglican Use parishes means that the Anglican Use is not a viable options for the vast majority of conservative Anglicans.

But we need to sharpen up our act if we are to defend it and find ways of achieving ‘best practice’ to enable and support our sisters and brothers in their enormous challenge and passage to Rome.

This is a blunter way of saying what I was trying to say,

Anglicanism is rich in diversity, particluarly in its interpretation of Scripture. Yes there are elements of high church who are more catholic than Roman’s but they are a minority and are unlikely to join us except in small numbers.

Ours is not so diverse. There is more or less one interpretation of Scripture. That in my view is too narrow. They may come and stay for a short while but I doubt it will last. Catholcism will be too restrictive.

Sorry if some of my posts are too rhetorical. Just trying to stimulate healthy debate and recognition of our needs for adaptation if it to be a successful and lasting transition
