Angry and Bitter: Escapism is rotting away

Interesting. Tragedy is part of life

I know, I deal with it, in real life (ISIS, Planned Parenthood, Hillary Clinton, my 3 mentioned losses) and look I don’t mind romeo and juliet or hamlet but I refuse to embrace it, tragedy is a part of life but we must hate it, as it is one of the last things God will conquer in the last day along with death, but now its being dumped into this story telling/escapism/whatever you wish to call it

Hero saves the world, then dies Or

Everyone he loves dies

His/Her lover dies

the cast dies along the way and usually by a ridiculous amount

Has a payoff for two minutes and then squashed following with “NOPE NOPE ITS TOO LATE KEEP MOVING FORWARD KEEP MOVING FORWARD”

It gives me a headache and My Hero Academia’s season two won’t be out until new years day,

Like after Soul Eater that was it, “you want others like them to have a happy ending? Ha ha nope.”

and whenever they do try to find one its boring and I cant get into it

Either its a bait and switch or its a boring bowl of mush…

What Im saying these writers and audiences who are supporting this tragedy cycle will never let anyone or anything change, unless we make them change, because by the time its over on its own, there is going to be a mass amount of tragic/bittersweet endings and stories and they won’t let works like yours or mine get off the ground

Well, there’s a lot of independent writers out there. I’ve seen a lot of book manuscripts. They can’t stop that. Some sell books off their own web site. There are also independent filmmakers. We can only not pay money for what “they” are producing, refuse to read it and so on. The Darkness is the current product being marketed. Happy endings? You can find plenty in films made from 1964 and earlier. Today, if you have the skill, you can make your own. I’ve seen a few cosplay things on youtube without explosions, massive killing and generally good/OK endings.

The company I work for is family friendly - something some people are not conditioned to enjoy. They “think” they want the other stuff, or they actually like it.

Tragic Romance

Payoffs squashed in two minutes to the sake of being ‘realistic’

I know innocent are wroth saving yes, but so are righteous

but it feels like when they risk their lives we automatically condemned them to death like “Oh your risked your life to save the world, now die, and be remembered, because your useless otherwise and have no life after worth living” simply out of a mindless and soulless obsession with “sacrifice” heroes should live and have happy endings and not just be flatly denied for something a bureaucratic as ‘thats life’ or ‘the way things are’, just because its the norm, doesn’t make it right, civilians and heroes are not separate things

I want to see heroes get happy endings

I want low death rates

I want to remake these characters into MY image and give them a happy ending

I want to show the world they CAN have these things and still hold light and dark

Inuyasha did it

Harry Potter did it (well at the end there were significant death rates, mostly the cherished family Harry had left, in terms of his parents, as well as mentor figures like Dear old Dumbles and Snapers, the others mostly lived except one of the Weasley twins-rest his soul)

I mean come on people we may not be all super important individuals but common we’re not soulless faceless nobodies who just let our soldiers die

We donate blood to them

We pay for veteran programs

We are even doing reverse boot camp therapy for PTSD veterans

Let’s treat them like heroes AND people, fictional ones included(in a metaphorical sense) we are individuals not mindless masses

If your characters can save the world and can have a happy ending, give it to them. Don’t just stand by and let tragedy take them.

we are living in a time where thats happening already and too much

and at least write in a heaven for your characters to give their fans some peace

You’re being very clear. I find it tragic that the movies and TV, and today, even cartoons, are so weird, and disturbing. Death means nothing, emotion means nothing. You know what was wrong with Mad Max: Fury Road? It was dead. People were just things that lived or died. A character’s soul, if he still had one, was exhibited on one or two occasions. You were too busy killing, trying not to be killed and enduring lots of death of friend and foe alike like it was nothing and it was nothing. SPOILER ALERT: Max and Furiosa part ways at the end. They weren’t people, they were just organisms that just did whatever they did to survive for another day. PTSD? Never!

No heart.

No soul.

No or minimal morals.

Ethics? What’s that?

Fight and kill. Fight and kill. Fight and kill.

Happiness? You would never want to give that to your audience, much less your characters.

Having stories that idolize bad/wrong behaviors, the gross, disgusting, bloody, gory and sexual perversity - that has got to go away. Right now, just stay away from it. Disown it.

it gets all sued up in the robocop remake which nails on the head the problem of modern audiences “You know what they love more than a hero? A DEAD hero”

just as they say “You know that they love more than romance? TRAGIC romance”

“You know what they love more than love? SEX”

“You know what they love more than happy endings? BITTERSWEET ENDINGS”

and the list goes on, in other words “cheap, and gets attention, and it gives us the leisure of having power over characters and audiences alike”
