Your last sentence is not based on facts. The poisoning of the Body of Christ in the West was a slow, gradual process. If we had gone from Ozzie and Harriet to Two and a Half Men overnight in the 1960s, people would have thrown out their TV sets.

My last statement was my personal belief not a definitive fact. I have a VERY hard time believing the generation before mine were somehow morally superior when they somehow raised children who would turn a blind eye to sexual abuse.

I imagine the 50s would have been better in some ways and worse in others. Also probably better for the people who could fit the mainstream society and a lot worse for any outsiders.

Oh yes they could - a man could present as an upstanding family man at the workplace or in Church on Sundays and then go home and behind closed doors beat or verbally abuse his spouse and children.

A woman could present as a great mother at PTA meetings and go home, get off her face on Valium and neglect those same children.

Hypocrisy is nothing new.

And Donald Trump’s disgusting comments about grabbing women by the privates would have been unlikely to come to light in days past - we didn’t have the technology back then.

Of course, there have always been hypocrites.

The split persona is the default today. So many of our young people do not even know how to navigate interpersonal relationships off screen. It is sad. Young men do not know how to ask a young lady on a date anymore!

Stuff that really isn’t harassment at all? And who gets to decide what is and isn’t harassment?

I accept people may act as they do unintentionally, or even with good motives. Done it myself many times.

But if someone - or a lot of someones - tells you your well-meaning behaviour is actually unhelpful, or worse, harmful, why must they be deemed wrong for their view discounted?

And why should you be allowed to continue merely because your intentions aren’t bad, if the results are bad?

Flagged. Please calm down. Painting with a “They were all like that” brush is not a good thing.

I never said or hinted that people of yesteryear were “all like that” (to quote you) or anything close.

If you read that into what I said then you are the one who needs to calm down.

I was simply repeating the Biblical and perfectly acceptable sentiment that, surfaces aside, there really is not much ‘new under the sun’ for good or evil.

I’d have to disagree somewhat. Being 45 and a lawyer I know plenty of older gents - mostly well educated successful professionals who should have every advantage in the relationship stakes.

With very few exceptions, they are (and from what I can observe always have been) as hopeless as any modern teenager at things like asking women on a date when they’re interested.

Not saying that the ladies are much better but that’s a whole mother story.
