Animal ghosts/hauntings

One of my dogs, Bonnie, was on the sofa looking like she did in life. She’d died with most of her fur gone and when I saw her on the sofa, she had all her fur back. We’d just gotten a puppy and the puppy barked. (It’s said that animals can sense when a spirit is present.) Our previous dog, I believe, was giving her blessing to our new family member. The indention of where she’d been remained for a good half hour after she left. And it was warm. (This was during an ice storm when no power was on in the house. No explanation for the warmth on that spot of sofa.)

A one time occurrence with her.

Then there was the time that I was at Church on Sunday and my mother was at home. She opened my bedroom door and said, “Oh, hello, Marie” and closed the door. It suddenly hit her that our beloved kitty had been deceased for 3 weeks. She opened the door again and Marie was gone.

When I came home, she told me about this. I reminded her that I’d told her 3 weeks earlier that we weren’t going to get another kitty until we’d both seen Marie’s apparition. That would mean that it was okay to get another kitty. I’d seen Marie’s apparition previously and now my mother had.

So this kitty appeared twice, once to each of us.

The most recent apparition was Mimi, who’d been deceased for over 10 years. I walked into my mother’s room and she was curled up on the floor. I remember stepping over her so I wouldn’t step on her and disturb her nap. Mama thought I’d tripped over something. I said, “No, can’t you see her?” She said, “See who?” I said, “Mimi, of course.” I turned and Mimi was gone.

One time with her.

And I’ve felt a fur baby next to me when all of the fur babies were staying with a friend. That one felt like Brigadier. Since it was nighttime, I didn’t see her. Just felt her. She was kitten size all her life. My sweet baby.

Apparitions are normal occurrences with us. We’ve had so many fur babies that we’re happy when one chooses to return even if only for a moment. Always a comforting experience. And yes, I see them when they appear. Just as solid as if they were still alive. I’ve never been afraid when I’ve seen them.

I’m glad you’re happy that you’re encountering said apparitions. However that insinuates that animals also have immortal souls and nowhere in the bible does it say that. It’'s almost a contradiction.

I’m not insinuating anything. Merely sharing my experiences. You did ask in your opening post, “What can be the explanation of people encountering the “ghost” of their dead pet or other ghosts of animals?”

My explanation, in regard to my babies is that they were letting me know they’re okay and were giving their blessing of our having new family members. I don’t see that as meaning they have immortal souls. I see it as meaning that they’re happy playing across the Rainbow Bridge which I always called “animal heaven.”

I know what the Bible says on the matter. And I know what I have experienced. My personal choice is not to try to analyze the whys, whats or hows and just to be thankful for the time together.

They don’t, but when exactly do their spirits die?

I figured that they just got assimilated. God made them and they return back to him.

Thank you to @lilypadrees for sharing your experiences. I totally believe and I wanted to share my experience.

I was told in a dream that my pet was going to die soon, but that she’d be waiting for me in Heaven.

When I awoke, and for a few weeks later, I was in denial. My cat wasn’t old and she wasn’t even sick. But three weeks after the dream she became suddenly ill and then died. I’ve since had a few experiences with her spirit. I do believe she is waiting for me in heaven and that God sent me the dream as a forewarning, but with a promise of a future reuniting.

You’re welcome, Autumn-Smoke.

Thank you for sharing your experience with your beloved fur baby.🐱💕

CS Lewis covers this briefly but effectively in the problem of pain. The last section discusses the problem of animal pain and whether or not animals go with us to heaven.
In brief, he says there is no conclusive evidence of how God deals with animals but that God promises to take our household which could include the animals we love.
Lewis speculates that the status of the animal is dependent upon its relationship to its master. He also said that if God sees something is good, it will be in heaven. So while a generic lion, passes away and does not transcend,
A dog that is loved by a Christian can logically join that Christian’s household if God perceives this as a good.
I have not explained this with anywhere near the articulation of Lewis. So before you dismiss it off hand, please read his far more informed opinion.

Laughing at someone and offering only opinion, and opinion that is not based on logic at that, is cruel. This is a sincere post. As Christians we are to be gentle with each other when proposing ideas. There is no reason to make fun of someone asking such a sincere question that is obviously based in love for God’s creatures. Those of you who have done this, should pray about your behavior.

Re read the post about aliens Etc. I am settled. God is good. I don’t need to be angry in order to correct Christians who perhaps just need to be a little nicer. Also if you feel this applied to you, perhaps you are the person I was speaking to. Not sure because it doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is what I read and there are posts here that are disrespectful.

I also find the tone in your objection to be overly paternal. Please don’t address me as a child. If you do feel the need to address me the words settle down are an inaccurate response as I’m not riled. As you can see this means there is no logic to your post. God bless

For the record, disagreeing with someone’s opinion doesn’t equate to being cruel.

I saw @JamalChristophr post. I assure you that he had no malicious intentions. YOU have not been on CAF very long. In time, you’ll understand our friendly banter.
Those of you who have done this, should pray about your behavior.
Oh, that’s not condescending or paternal at all…
perhaps you are the person I was speaking to.
Since you didn’t reply to a specific poster, I assume that you’re referring to anyone who doesn’t agree with your viewpoint.

That’s your opinion. Apparently, you’re the only one to take offense.
If you do feel the need to address me the words settle down are an inaccurate response
I stand by my original comment.

There is a chance that you are mistaken and that your banter is what is inappropriate. I don’t need to be on a site to understand its people. I am here to learn and offer what I know. Calling something a joke doesn’t make it okay and I’m sorry but you will not judge me on this. Malicious intent or not it was a serious question that required serious answers. Therefore the banter is what is an appropriate. Now I hope this exchange will turn more towards actually answering the question.

I do feel the need to remind you how ever that internet connections are not relationships. This site is here to educate the world

The Moderators alone shall determine what is appropriate and what is not appropriate on CAF. Not YOU. If you have a problem, contact them.

I will pray for you and please know that I too will speak my mind. I will pray for you. I know from experience it is hard to carry such Pride. I also know from experience what it’s like to have someone make a joke at my expense. I don’t like it. Most people don’t like it. It’s inappropriate on a Catholic site and I will call it out anytime I see it. Yours in Christ. May you find peace
