Planet Earth is inhabited for a reason, so
all creatures great and small can live in peace and harmony. Humans have no right to torture, kill and eat any animals that God created. Do not eat or kill any animal on Planet Earth.

CCC 2417 God entrusted animals to the stewardship of those whom he created in his own image.198 Hence it is legitimate to use animals for food and clothing. They may be domesticated to help man in his work and leisure. Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving human lives.

Genesis 9:1-4
1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth.
2 Dread fear of you shall come upon all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon all the creatures that move about on the ground and all the fishes of the sea; into your power they are delivered.
3 Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.
4 Only flesh with its lifeblood still in it you shall not eat.

Assumption: all animals are equal, including humans

Then: we should treat animals as equal and have no right to kill and eat them

Fact: other species do not follow that moral code

Hence: all animals are not equal since they do not follow this moral code

Hence assumption is not true.

The Church has never supported cruelty to animals. However, we’re permitted to eat them. Assuming we try not to be gluttonous, wasteful or cruel in the process, eating an animal, or even feeding it to my own pet animal, is using God’s gift of an animal in an appropriate way.

What’s with all the animal threads lately?

This thread seems like it is in good will so I’m not addressing this OP.
But in general, other attempts to exalt animals can be an attempt to dehumanize. Pro aborts especially are losing the battle over human exceptionalism. And they have lost the battle for the science, thanks to advances in biology etc… And the repeated attempt to put humans and animals on a false equal level are a desperate attempt to justify cruelty to human beings.

But that’s another thread.

Welcome to CAF @JulieLindur !

Be forewarned that there is an unusual culture here on CAF that loathes vegans and feels quite threatened and defensive by this scant 0.5% of the U.S. population.

Church teaching permits eating meat. But veganism isn’t a sin, either.
No it’s not. And vegans have excellent points on the digestive makeup of humans. Our teeth. Our digestive systems. I could easily be vegan, or at least vegetarian. (If I lived alone. My wife ain’t eatin twigs and berries)

Considering I frequently see vegans trying to ignore that we have canine teeth, I wouldn’t call their points excellent. Certainly as omnivores we can survive on an overwhelmingly vegetarian diet, but we do not have an herbivore’s digestive tract.

Unless your mouth looks like this - and makes for some interesting dental appointments - you’re not required to eat meat. (Come to think of it, this guy could really use a tooth cleaning).

Did you ever watch those nature videos that are shown on TV? Peace and harmony? Animals stalking and cornering and ripping apart and eating others animals. That’s peace and harmony?

I know people will jump in and say how tasty vegan meals are, good for them. But any vegan meal I tried was disgusting. If I went vegan I’d stick to fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

No one feels threatened by vegans. We could care less if people adopt a vegan lifestyle. But that doesn’t mean we will not debate the moral claims made by vegans.

Did I say required? No, I just said we don’t have the digestive tract of obligate herbivores. I don’t have a problem if people choose to artificially restrict their own diets, but it is an artificial restriction.

People who are anti-fur factor in zero on the decision/want to buy furs in general.

For the record here, my wife has gotten absolutely nothing but positive comments anywhere we go when she wears a fur coat.

I think it’s pretty obvious we were made to eat meat, especially when you consider that until very recently people didn’t have easy access to other sources of protein all around the globe.

I do commend vegetarians/vegans though that diet because of the cruelty animals face in the food industry. It makes how much is wasted even more disgusting. I’m considering trying to put together a vegetarian meal plan myself, and see if I can budget to afford things like eggs and cheese from local farms. I kinda feel like I shouldn’t eat meat until knowing I could kill and clean the animal myself, and I’m not that hooked on the taste anyway.

I’ll believe that when I see more from the OP. Based on their profile, they created an account, instantly posted this, and have not been seen since. Best case scenario so far is that they’re a vegan screaming from a soapbox, but it’s entirely possible they’re just a troll.

Actually, humans do… God gave us that right… .
