I was in another thread and an off topic question came to mind.
Ferdinand Mary suggested that I start a separate thread…
I have cut and pasted excerpts from the previous threads that were pertinent to my question below…

Original post:

"Plans to outlaw the creation of human-animal hybrid embryos for potentially life-saving stem cell research are to be dropped after a revolt by scientists. "

My question:
Let’s just be clear- I am not condoning this AT ALL,
but this brought up a question…would the embryo have a human or an animal soul? would it have a soul at all?

Response from Jennifer123:
I think it’s a good question, certainly interesting in a sad sort of way…

I would think that because “man” is present that there would be a soul. Even animals for that matter have souls. Whether a hybrid could attain an immortal soul? I dunno! We need the big brains in here - I guess we could ask an apologist?

Final response from Ferdinand Mary:
If a discussion on whether or not the soul of a man-animal hybrid would be simply a material soul (like the souls of all animals) or an immortal soul (like the souls of all humans) is desired, please start a new thread in the Moral Theology forum.

So my question to quote Ferdinand Mary is would “the soul of an animal-man hybrid be simply a material soul or an immortal soul” ?

If such a hybrid could properly be identified as a human being, then he would have a spiritual, immortal soul.

Basically, if what resulted from this kind of experimentation had a body capable of being animated by a spiritual soul, then God would choose to create a spiritual soul immediately out of nothing at the moment it came into existence (just as with all other human beings).

A very slight genetic difference would probably not prevent the embryo from being human. There are genetic anomalies such as Down’s Syndrome, which are comparable.

I think there may be a question of method, here, though. If they are taking a human embryo and then later modifying it, there is a difference than if it exists as a hybrid from the first moment of existence.

I’ve read a lot of fantasy novels in the past with human hybrids, ie. harpy (human with wings for arms), centaur (human body and torso with four horse legs), manticore (an animal with multiple heads, one of which is human) but never thought about it in this context.

But I think just as long as the hybrid is able to consciously make decisions based on what is good or evil, have the ability to form a conscience similar to humans with thoughts and dreams of the future/past, then I think it would have an immortal soul.

Not to hijack this thread but what if an animal-man hybrid looks exactly like a human but the brain is peasize from a rodent and the man is not able to act like a human but a rat for example, would that hybrid have an immortal soul?

Warmest regards,
-Ben

Of course a hybrid would have a soul, just as man, animal and even the trees have souls [life]. See my thread 'soul originating in the organism.

Of course, I have no doubt my [and your] critics will argue that 'if it is created not by the will of God but by the will of man then it will not possess a soul 😛

But if Man created it, then ultimately it is a creation of Almighty God seeings it only exists as God has given man the ability to create it.

Watch this space in the next millenia when artificial intelligence also possess an immortal soul 😉

Chimeras on the Horizon -If something were half human and half animal, what would our moral responsibilities be?" says Richard Doerflinger of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. "It might be immoral to kill such a creature
On the horizon? My friend they already exist. Albeit in laboratories but exist they most certainly do.

The moral dilemma is not mine to resolve thank God

If a chimera could demonstrate spiritual qualities such as the exercise of the intellect and the will, then that would be evidence of its spiritual soul. A spiritual soul is always created directly by God through an act of his will.

I would not be too certain as to whether such a hybrid being capable of logical thought or having a ‘developed’ conscious would be sufficient as indicative criteria for the existence of an immortal soul. Human beings are not capable of rational thought in the unborn and early infantile stages as well as those with certain mental disabilities. Though, there exists undeniably an immortal soul in such people. I posed a similar question some time ago along similar lines as the original poster: Human soul possible in other life forms?: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=119727

The exercise of spiritual faculties (intellect, will, etc.) requires having a spirit.

Not everyone who has a spiritual soul is able to exercise fully those faculties, however, for a variety of reasons.

Amen 👍

The very point I tried to make on a previous thread but unfortunately did not possess your eloquence so was shot down and burned

Reverse that.

A human person is a bodily creature animated by a rational soul.
That’s all I’m saying. If you would call it human, e.g., because of a very slight genetic modification and it’s alive, then it has a spiritual soul.

No disagreement here. The point was that whether such faculties are apparent and ‘observable’ or not is not a reliable indication of the existense of an immortal soul. True, if such faculties are in fact observed, there can be no question of an immortal soul. But, the reverse is not true however. If those faculties are not observed or not apparent, it does not indicate the lack of.

Amen 😛

St John Paul pray for us 🙂

What type of souls do the hybrids in heaven have?
Heavenly ones!😛

We have only to look at this planet and its rich diversity of life.

Jesus said: i’in my father’s house there are many rooms’! I think it is naive of us to assume every room has a ensuite, utility and pantry 😛

I am sure some of those rooms and their occupants are magnificent and beyond our wildest imaginations.

Wow, so we’re no longer satisfied with the selection of lives we have available to kill and torture now we have to make new ones…

The first time God had to interfere in human history was when Adam and Eve gave in to Lucifer’s temptations.

The second time God had to step in was the great flood. This was due to the evil in the world brought about by the fallen angels taking human wives, the product of which were the nephilim. The “mis-conduct” of the fallen angels did not stop at angel/human hybrids…there was also bestiality. And so God sent the great flood.

The fouth time God had to interfere in human affairs was the Tower of Bable incident. I won’t even go into speculations as to what the Tower of Babel incident was really about.

Lucifer and his demons have been trying, under many guises and approaches, to taint and ruin the human genome throughout the centuries.
Which is why the Nazi cult was so succesful and never really died out, because it was so “in-line” with the Luciferian agenda…horror, terror, human experimentation, occultic activity etc etc etc

We humans are rapidly heading towards a 5th Divine intervention.

When you get a chance, look up Garabandal.

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.
