I was thinking more along the lines of made new and not pet/animal resurection.Would’nt it be cool,if dogs where made new in Heaven,already house broke and did’nt have to be taught how to fetch a ball??

But really, this open the door for many other things.Many of the things we may love or cling to on earth may not be in Heaven.We may not even miss them.

Things like.

-pets
-playing sports
-hobbies
-music
-fishing
-hunting
-hiking
-inline skating
-martial arts
-bicycling
-gardening
-any form of exercise we enjoy
-ETC

Or any of the things that bring us simple pleasures in this life.

I always thought Catholic theology taught that there is no resurrection for animals ??
Don’t get me wrong, I WUV widdle doggie woggies, but I don’t want to get my hopes up if the Church teaches they cannot be resurrected.

I miss all my dearly departed pets, especially my last two dogs, Woody and Audrey (she was a REAL character, and Woody was just plain lovable). I also miss our cats. ALL of them.

But where would the resurrection of animals end?
Would all cows and chickens and snakes and fruit-bats be resurrected too ? I have to admit, I wonder…

Yet, having been human living in a world filled with animals, I can’t imagine humans feeling fully human without such familiar companions around…hmmmmmm.

There’s not a single view of this in Catholic theology. I know that St. Thomas Aquinas argued against animal resurrection, but his reasoning isn’t conclusive by any means.

This is a matter that simply can’t be settled dogmatically, IMO, because it strays too far from what is actually talked about in Scripture and Tradition. The most we can offer is our speculations.

It could theoretically be resurrected with the body, however, should that be God’s design for the Resurrection.

If this happened, I would call it a “reconstruction” not a “resurrection”…

Whether animals will continue past the general judgement, I don’t think we can really say.

Although it won’t really matter (due to the infinite happiness of the beatific vision)…I, for one, would like to see the New Earth be a little less bland than Aquinas imagined it to be…

I don’t see why it would need to be “reconstruction”, since resurrection just means “rise again”. Humans are technically reconstructed too, as we definately dissolve into parts and are put back together. I think that’s just semantics.

Aquinas has a somewhat reasonable argument against the rising of animals, but I don’t think it takes all factors into account.

Anyway, after the flood, I do recall that God told Noah that He would demand an account from animals, so I would not be surprised to find my late mischievous critters are having the times of their lives with Jesus in Heaven.
