Yes, maybe there is something more.Regardless of how bad the story is, I find it really unbelievable that one webcomic could bring about a total transformation (to the point of skipping school and losing her faith). There’s definitely something else going on, and the obsession with Homestuck may be a symptom of another problem. Mom would do best to investigate the situation further and keep communication open.
I’ve only read the very first part of it… It looked kind of interesting, definitely a unique project. But I guess it wasn’t enough to hold my interest, since I stopped reading pretty quickly. I never got to the trolls.![]()
The obsession with certain fandoms could be a symptom of some underlying problem. The nocive elements of certain works and the influence of people, fuels the changes. I have observed these kind of dynamics both in person and in internet. I think asking what they find attractive about certain productions, is a good course of action, then studying and analyzing the environment (friends, etc), and their set of beliefs, symbolic elements, ideology, etc.
A good example of change of convictions, indoctrination, and fandom craziness are some of the blogs hosted on Tumblr. I know of various people that have changed for the worst after spending time in some of the blogs there (plus other things, various factors are at work).
