Really? I thought the manga had a happy ending?
Yeah, I was joking. I’d never seen high-school anime before watching this on Netflix, and couldn’t figure out why I was watching it, but I just…couldn’t…look…away! The episode where she had her girlfriends over to the house and the boys kept transforming every two seconds was pretty funny, though.
what do you think of Fruits Baskets? I don’t really watch anime, but have watched that and it’s so sweet! The girl is so selfless.
Tohru is sweet all right, sickly sweet, at least in the English-dubbed anime. I must confess that at one point I was possessed by the unchristian desire to pistol-whip her.

Macross Frontier is good and so is Macross Zero (which is only like, 5 episodes). Macross is usually more diva/mecha then just plain mecha as a lot of the story revolves around female singers.

I’ve seen bits of Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed.^^; Like I said, waaay too tragic for my taste. I think I might like Macross Frontier though since Ranka is pretty cute.

I’ve been somewhat flamed for this view but I often preferred the premise of Zoids: New Century where everyone just fights in giant mechs for some big, fat prize money with majority of the cast still being alive at the end. >_>;;
Well, Gundam was never meant to be feel good in the first place, since Tomino wanted to create an anti-thesis to the Super Robot shows that were showing. U.C.(Universal Century) Gundam shows are consistent with the theme War is Hell, so the shows would have a dark, dramatic theme.

Macross on the other hand treads lightly on the War is hell theme and focuses more on the tone of resolving conflicts through the power of communication, song and culture (weaponizing music?). Of course Macross is also more about remembering love more than anything else.

If you want to get in on the Real Robot genre i suggest you watch the SDF Macross franchise be your gateway anime to these kinds of shows.

Super Robot shows on the other hand haven’t changed much from the olden days. I guess They’ll be more up to your alley (zoids) with some notable exceptions like Nagahama’s romance trilogy of Daimos, Combattler V, and Voltes V which you might be familiar with.
For this genre I suggest Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z Hen which is a modern retelling of the classic* Mazinger Z *story. I also highly recommend Aim for the top! and Aim for the top!2 a.k.a Gunbuster and the ‘sequel’ Diebuster. Then you can move on to the recent TTGL (Gurren Lagann).
I watched the first episode with some friends. I liked how they started summoning the Servants. 83

On an interesting note, one of these friends told me that the Tohsaka family is actually Catholic (hence, their supposed good ties with the otherwise anti-magic Church). Whether or not they’re CINO actually wasn’t enough to keep my jaw from dropping when he told me. o.O
It seems that it’s also heavily implied that Kotomine and his church is in fact Catholic. 🤷 I honestly don’t mind though since anime usually take “liberties” with foreign religions in general.

Evangelion!

One of my favorites!

And the new movies have lots of interesting details, as a Graphic Design student, I noticed the care and effort that was put in logotypes, marks, and graphics, both in backgrounds and props. Even the Evas look better now.

Blessings!

🙂

Very true. I guess we are going to have to wait a while for the next two movies.

Evangelion: Q is slated to be released during Fall 2012. Have you seen the trailer? Space pirate Asuka was all kinds of awesome.

Hahaha last night I randomly found two links to two old series I used to watch as a kid, Medabots and Crush Gear Turbo :D. Nostalgia rush

What a strange coincidence! Just a few days ago, I found myself watching the OP of Crush Gear Turbo!

I kinda feel sad now that I neglected my poor Dino Spartan. 😦

P.S.

My little trip down anime memory lane though also led me back to this one called Strange Dawn. I once seeing bits of it on TV but I never got interested in it (even now). However, I never knew it’s opening song was just the kind of fantasy-esque tune I’ve been looking for! 😃

imagines himself as a wizard looking down on a castle from a grassy hill

I’ve seen that new trailer now!

Why is she in space?

Maybe it has to do with the white being in the moon and the coffins?

Why her plugsuit now has those weird bandage-like details?

Blessings!

🙂

Hello folks. I just thought I’d let all who are on this thread know that I just finished attending a two-day cosplay convention today. The costumes I’ve seen were pretty cool and we had an awesome turn-out this year…

Though then again, I wonder if that was due to the fact that we brought an actual visual-kei band from Japan for a special guest appearance AND a concert. >.>

Oh and by the way, I may have just said “attend” right now but in truth I actually volunteered to be part of security.

Good Lord my ears… a scream is indeed a fan girl’s greatest weapon. TwT

I recently finished the manga akagami-no-shirayukihime

Introduced to me by my little sister of all people (Of course my little sister personifies this type of anime).

I also recently finished watching “Princess Tutu” on netflix, and I am currently watching the anime Bleach. I find them fun and entertaining.

I have found I prefer to watch the anime’s when they are subbed rather than when they are dubbed (Including Naruto, my very first foray into the anime world).

I also prefer subbed. Maybe the original Japanese voice acting isn’t always necessarily ‘good’, but it always feels like the most appropriate way to experience anime.

I find myself leaning to the view that genre might actually play a role in how good voice-acting can be. As much as I find subs still pretty superior these days, I have come across moments where it’s better for a British VA to voice a British character so to speak.

I’ll admit I have mostly watched dubbed. As far as quality English dubs, Cowboy Bebop comes to mind. Also, Crispin Freeman and Kari Wahlgren are awesome.

I mean I’m adding nothing to the conversation, so there is no point in continuing.

I am not on the same page as anyone and unable to make myself understood. I am leaving the thread, probably the forum, possibly the Church.

Good bye and good luck.
Talk about being tsundere about it. 🙂

But seriously, you shouldn’t leave the Church over anything, let alone an anime show or a misunderstanding.

Speaking of this, the new season of Last Exile is broadcasting… 🙂 It seems to be superior to your show, so come back and defend it.

Glad to see there are some fellow Christian anime fans here. 🙂

Anyone watch stuff from the latest season? I’ve been following Fate/Zero, Future Diary, Wagnaria/Working, and C3. I’ve also been following Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai when Funimation manages to upload new episodes.

Any manga fans here?

I’ve been going back and forth between two kinds of manga reading habits in accordance to my schedule (and writing moods :o). One is Read-Upon-Release and the other is Let-It-Stack.

Read-Upon-Release: Read chapter upon release on teh interwebz. Stay updated. 😛
Let-It-Stack: Wait around a bit for a few chapters then gobble it all up in a nice, long reading session. 😛

As of now, I’m currently on Let-It-Stack.

With that said and done, here are just some of the series I’ve been following.

Naruto
Soul Eater
Air Gear
Mahou Sensei Negima
Medaka Box
Fairy Tail
Aoi Hana

Now for finished series I also plan on reading as well purchasing some time in the future:

Flame of Recca
Chobits
Love Hina
Rave Master
Magic Knight Rayearth
Strawberry 100%
Onegai Twins
Midori Days

Hayate the Combat Butler
ToraDora
Kannagi
A Certain Scientific Railgun
K-On!

I also follow Omamori Himari, but I’m seriously considering dropping it. I’m going to pick up Sailor Moon and Sailor V someday soon, and I’m pondering picking up Lucky Star!

Are you watching any current anime series?

Not at the moment though I have finished watching Gosick, Tiger and Bunny, and Mayo Chiki one or few months ago.

Oh and by the way, I’m usually torn between the manga and anime when it comes to both Lucky Star and K-On!. Lucky Star is more on the anime for me because I like the voices and the animated reactions have more impact on teh lulz. XD K-On! on the other hand, I have really a hard time. I think there’s a bit of a story to it as well so the manga might have more canon info. On the other hand, I love the music of the anime!!
