Good one!

A true fan would buy this:
ebay.com/itm/NEW-Volks-Super-Dollfie-SDG-GOSICK-Victorique-Blois-/390311603018

:D:D:p

Only kidding! I think that would be overkill unless of course you are really made of money.
Even as a collector figurines (lately anime, but I have others), that’s waaayyy too much for me. Now, if I had just won the lottery or something, it would be a different story. 😛

That’ probably gonna hurt someone’s wallet, but it is a beautifully done doll.

And Tenofovir, I talk with the guy who runs that site regularly on Twitter!

Also, what’s everyone think of Katanagatari? I’m enjoying it so far. (spoiler here?) That Togame sure is obsessed with revenge, though.

But your Gosick comic book is now on sale for $1,999 🙂

Those “doll-party dolls” go with a mark up of about 100%-150%. The original price is usually $800-900. But it’s also possible to create customised one for much, much less.

Still as you say, it’s a lot of money. The only good reason could be - investment - but then you have to keep the item sealed in the original box, for if you put it on the shelf, and tolerate the funny looks you’ll receive, the value drops by >50%. I have a sealed “Iris Chateaubriand” Sakura Wars figure (not doll) sealed in box with a serial number I bought on Ebay in 2004. I think it may be worth something one day but then who’s going to buy such a thing.

I own several figures. I display them in a cabinet like one does a piece of art (since that’s essentially what I view them as). It’s also an interesting way for me to connect with a series or character that I like.

One of them, since you guys mentioned the Zero no Tsukaima earlier–a series I really enjoyed, is this Louise figure. I discovered after I bought her that the outfit was cast-offable, which I was a little creeped out by. I display her fully clothed, of course, and I have no desire to remove the clothes (except when demonstrating to people what a cast-offable figure is or to prove that she is one to people).

You Luise fanboy you! 🙂 I see that you also appreciate mild mannered, kind hearted characters. Gosick girl-whatshername is far too tsundere for me, but Luise is very timid and sweet. She usually says warm things like: “Don’t get the wrong idea, just because I saved your life, doesn’t mean I have any feelings for you, you dirty dog.” or
“Just because you saved my life doesn’t mean I will let you sleep in a bed or eat from the table. You’re still a dirty dog.” A similar character is Aria, from Aria the Scarlet Ammo. It’s also the same voice actress.

Ah yes, Aria. Fun show, but definitely not KugiRie’s strongest role. My favorite role of hers is either Kagura from Gintama or Nagi Sanzenin from Hayate the Combat Butler.

And yes, I can appreciate the kinder sweeter characters, but my interests as far as traits go are all over the place. I do like some of the meaner tsunderes like Victorique, but I also like characters that seemingly have no mean bones in their body like Elsie from TWGOK. I like quiet characters, but I also like outgoing characters, too. It all depends on how the traits a given character has work out on the whole. And if you want a reasonable representation of my personality, replace science with history and I’m a lot like Okabe Rintaro from Steins;Gate. 😛

No, the mad scientist!

Also, here’s a figurine I own of another character whose personality I identify with a lot, Yuri from Angel Beats! (Just not her view on God, though by the end of the series, her view might have changed, heh)
The “god” in Angel Beats is not a depiction of God so no worries there.

Well, it’s a sad day for us anime fans in America. Bandai’s American division is shutting down DVD/Blu Ray and manga distribution. animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-01-02/bandai-entertainment-to-stop-releasing-new-dvds-bds-manga

Really sad to lose Gosick and Kannagi. Really enjoyed both.

Meanwhile, Kyle Hebert, a voice actor who does dubbing here in America, has some more stuff on the subject. Highly recommend checking this out, especially if you are an American anime fans. youtube.com/watch?v=8YUFrQ8B9NY

So, what’s everyone watching for the new season?

I’m continuing Mirai Nikki, and I’m interested in picking up Prince of Tennis, Nisemonogatari, Moretsu Pirates, Milky Holmes, Ano Natsu de Matteru, and maybe Brave 10. I’ll probably be checking out some random shows among the rest of what’s been licensed here in the US.

Nisemonogatari getting picked up by Crunchyroll is awesome news. I was so happy to hear it. Back before I decided to go only with shows that were licensed for streaming, I remember really enjoying Bakemonogatari (hope it gets licensed one day).

Just finished vol 1 of the Durarara manga. It was a lot of fun. So many interesting characters. Very interesting to see how the author(s) tie everything and everyone together.

Looking forward to the release of the Hayate the Combat Butler manga vol 19 next week.

(BTW, what happened to this thread? Did people forget about it or something?)

Argh! As the thread starter, I gotta say I’m ashamed for not posting myself either! My current job pretty much takes up my whole day, five days a week. I don’t even know if I have anything anime/manga newsworthy unless you all want to know I just bought Vol 2 and 5 of Love Hina. >_>

2 and 5? No 3 & 4?

lol.

I don’t know if this counts as “anime,” but I am a big fan of Avatar the Last Airbender. Anyways yesterday, I finally watched the live action movie. 😛 I think I spent the entire movie doing this:doh2: or this :rotfl:.

I had read the reviews and knew it was bad, I didn’t realize quite how bad.

‘Bad’ is an understatement… Heck, it’s an understatement of an understatement! DX

P.S.

I’m personally one of those who accept Avatar as a non-Japanese anime. Everything from the style to the storyline has just so much in common with what we’ve come to recognize in the anime genre.

I never know quite what counts as far as “non-Japanese” anime, or indeed what even started out as Japanese and migrated to mainstream tv here. (When I was growing up, there was pokemon, digimon, Card Captors I think it is Sakura Card Captor in Japanese Shaman King, and a whole bunch more that are in the anime style, that made it into the main stream Saturday morning cartoons).

Though, Avatar actually did get to the point rather quickly (only 3 seasons) unlike, some other popular animes like Naruto and Bleach. ;)😛

So, what’s everyone watching this season?

I could probably rank mine like so:
  1. Nisemonogatari
  2. Inu x Boku SS
  3. Zero no Tsukaima F
  4. PapaKiki
  5. Brave 10
  6. Ano Natsu de Matteru
Also got Moretsu Pirates & Mirai Nikki on hold. Also watching Poyopoyo and Recorder to Randoseru, but they are just 3 mins long for each episode. Both are decent.

All of my shows are pretty close together in terms of how much I like them, except for Nisemonogatari, which is far and away my favorite.

Once Niconico.com finally uploads Milky Holmes season 2, I’ll begin watching that as well. Loved the first season. So bizarre and funny.

Actually, all of the ones you’ve cited right now are licensed English dubs (not the best actually). Non-Japanese anime refers to cartoons made outside of Japan that have a strong similarity with anime in terms of both art-style and storyline. Avatar has clearly made that cut as far as I see.

Well to be fair, my guess that it has something to do with Naruto and Bleach starting out as manga. There are anime that are much shorter because they are what you call stand-alone. Simply put, they’re not adaptations. (Case in point: Tiger and Bunny)
