So, what’s everyone watching this season?
Currently following? Nothing for the most part though last night I was introduced to “Daily Lives of High School Boys” and I enjoyed it a lot.

Thanks to the Munchkin I’m behind on the stuff I was watching last eason…mainly Fate Zero and the second season of Squid Girl (and I never did start Penguindrum). But I’ll catch up.

Bunny Drop is on my must see list. I’ve got a song I’m dying to make an AMV to and that source should fit nicely (if it lives up to what I’ve heard about it). I’m also re-watching Fushigi Yugi for another AMV project

I’m also in Carnival Phantasm withdrawal. SEASON 4!!! Indeed.

WOOO! An anime thread!!! I love anime! I just finished Claymore for the second time, and now watchin Tokyo Majin

So I take it you like Claymore?😛 Netflix keeps trying to recommend it to me. What do you like about it? I haven’t seem it yet, but am trying to decide whether I should start.

It’s super good. The story is that there are demons named Yoma that are killing people, and to combat the threat, this “Organization” created female half human/Half Yoma warriors. The animation was clean, the story was strong, and very good voice acting. There is, however curse words, and some nudity(though not over done, and not exploitive)

Anyone ever watched Otome Youkai Zakuro? Great show. Don’t be turned off by “pretty boy” appearance of some of the main guys. It’s a good show with some well developed characters, and the drama is pretty well done. Apparently, that character design makes some sense in light of the fact that the show is based on a manga which is, as far as I can tell, the only non-BL story the mangaka has done. Don’t let that deter you, though. There’s none of that sort of stuff here.

Also, I’m very excited that the 19 volume of Hayate the Combat Butler is coming out in the US later this week (Feb 7th). Big fan of the series. Only manga I’ve followed beyond volume 5. See here: twitpic.com/7ucuk4

Ooh, this looks good! Off I go to find it!
Lately I’ve been on the prowl for some anime to add to my collection of like, two DVDs. Puella Magi Madoka Magica looks interesting, but it’s so expensive right now (they want HOW MUCH for four episodes?!). I might just wait a looooooong time and see if they ever release the entire series on DVD.

shudders I’ve heard so many wrong things about that anime. Do we really want another moe-guro blood fest? I like moe and I find gore amusing but not at the same time! DX It’s one reason why I despised School Days. 7_7

Really? I heard it was an interesting deconstruction of the magical girl genre (which I like, but sometimes it’s nice to have a change from the usual tropes).

And, I’m now watching Otome Youkai Zakuro, it’s so cuuuuuuuuuute! It’s a nice break from Hell Girl (what is UP with season 3?! It makes no sense!).

That’s pretty much why I don’t like it so much. I’ve never been a huge fan of deconstruction. I think School Days was one as well (for the Japanese highschool romance genre).

Isn’t School Days one of those… explicitly sexual anime/visual novels?

The original yes but my issue is more with the banner of ‘deconstruction’ simply being a cheap excuse to turn school romance archetypes into psychotic characters.

Give me Clannad any day… God, Clannad. How I’d love to watch THAT! X3

Well I’m a fan of psychotic characters my self. But I despise school romances, etc. So I’ll agree they shouldn’t be mixed :D.

It’s a reflection of myself really. I’m a lonely romantic who dreams of having your typical love confession from a cute school girl in uniform. ;w; (Even though it’s rather sad and perhaps disturbing that I’m actually old enough to be her substitute teacher. >_>;; )

Sounds like you’ve got a plot for a successful manga/anime there :p. Though you’ll excuse me if I don’t read it :D. The only school manga I could go for is something in the vein of Tenjho Tenge… without all the… well you know.

I admit, Oh! Great can really get over the top at times. Still, I think stuff like that really adds to the atmosphere of urban decay. That’s what I like about that sort of highschool anime.

Heck one of the many fanfiction plot bunnies in my head involve something like that except replace/mix martial arts with typical DnD/M:TG magic. 😛 I could see my author avatar passing by, seeing your typical moe ingenue (think Shinobu Maehara from Love Hina) getting harassed by delinquents, and then he sprouts dragon wings before threatening to breathe fire into their faces. (Btw, that in turn is actually a subtle shout out to another favorite manga of mine, Fairy Tail. :p)

Then again, my character’s not the only somewhat OP one I’ve made. (Hint: Typical vampire loli is typical… scary. XD)

Well I think it could be accomplished with more taste. Look at Vagabond for example. Takehiko Inoue managed to capture the brutality and decadence of the era without resorting to the adventures of Maya and Chiaki :P.

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple was a great disappointment for me in this area. It’s a great story, amazing fight scenes, and hilarious romance. But the fan-service was absolutely ridiculous. So much so that I just stopped reading it.

Sounds like you’d be a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX 😃

I can’t draw. I can trace all right though.

[Edit: removed image]

I can claim the shading, etc., but I think I got that wrong :D. Which is a shame, I have a lot of ideas. I just can’t transfer them from that wonderful place between sleeping and being awake.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to but my awkwardness radar is already tingling. >_>;;

LOL! I actually watched it on occasion (and played the game, even though it was all either virtual or with cheap fakes XD). Consider me one of those rare TCG players who equally appreciates both.

Darn, can’t see it. >_<;;
On the other hand, I don’t draw either. Literary description however can be just as artistic. 😃 <— Warning: Has his Literature hat on. 😛

Your radar is good. It’s best you not know :D.

I’m not actually familiar with it my self. Just the general premise. But Yu-Gi-Oh… those were the days. Trying to get all the pieces of Exodia whilst launching Beyblades into your mother’s cooking pot and making sure you get home in time from school for the Cell Saga… I miss though days.

Shame I can only limit my self to casual M:TG games and saving up for the complete box sets of the DB and DBZ manga 😃 (I’ve already got one box!).

Oh certainly. But whenever I try to do it, I can’t get the words right. I’m not tooting my own flute. I do have some epic scenes in my head :p!

Unfortunately it’s also the reason why I can never read even the most innocent words in the same way again. T_T

HAHA! Actually I myself started out as a Pokemon child. Oh the fights my siblings and I would have over who got to play the Gameboys.:o Heck, me and brother have already lost count on how many teams we made. XD

Something tells me you might even better off that way. I try to play Casual but a lot of the M:TG players I hang with are a tad hardcore. They say they play to ‘bond’. Yeah sure, meanwhile you’re touting yourself by buying out rares, playing expensive cards, buying packs by the bulk, and assuming every person in your play group dreams of winning a tourney. Frankly, my dealings at my local game store have been… strenuous as of late. -.-

Then again, on the bright side, it helps test my conviction about separating the game from the players. >B(

Ah yes, we’ve all been there… as well as return there… on many occasions… many mind-numbing occasions. :banghead:

I know that feeling!

I didn’t include Pokemon because I still carry on with it today. I don’t watch the anime and I don’t collect the cards, but give me some good old Pokemon Red and Silver any day of the week :D!

I’ve only been playing for about a year. A friend got me into it. I was aware of the game before and wanted to start but he’s the one who eventually pushed me over the edge. But he’s absolutely mad over it. He was like that with Warhammer as well. But since he’s a student and that’s so expensive these days it’s like he’s transferred his old obsession to this. Buying rares, drafting, etc. Always trying to get me to draft :D!

I did get to draft free once with him though and it was fun. I got everyone’s commons, etc., because they already had enough so I walked away with plenty of cards from the expansion… but I couldn’t do it as often as them. Besides I’m not as competitive as that lot are like.

I like my White soldier deck thank you very much !
