I have heard of Penguindrum, but I have not been able to find the show on any of the streaming sites I usually visit, so I have not seen it. It sounds insane.

Has anyone else seen Ghost Hound or Star Driver? I think that they’re two of the most underrated anime I have ever watched. They’re not perfect, but hardly anybody seems to talk about them.
TheAnimeNetwork is streaming it, but you have to be a paid subscriber to see past the first episode (which is free).

I bought it on DVD, personally.

Also, anything look good to you guys this season? Kotoura-san really surprised me. Very good show. Maoyu also is interesting, and so is Oreshura.

I’m sure it’s been talked about, but is the Rurouni Kenshin movie any good and will it be subbed (hopefully) and available at art theaters, if not DVD, soon?

Also, I saw that Trigun: Badlands movie and was thinking, afterwards, doesn’t his arm turn into a supergun and why didn’t that happen? Otherwise, it was as enjoysable as I remember the tv show, though maybe with an iffy scene of a crossing 6th commandment nature.

Thanks!

I actually saw it released under a Warner Bros label. A mall franchise gave it a special release exclusively in its own theaters. (It just goes to show how we love our anime over here :p).

The story was actually a highly, very highly condensed version of the the original. If you’re looking for fidelity, you might be disappointed. That doesn’t make it any less awesome though. In terms of aesthetics, the transition from manga/anime to live-action was superb!

Obviously a fan of Transformers. Also a fan of Chrono Crusade, The Guyver, Robotech, Voltron, Saber Riders, and Gundum Wing.

I LOVE anime and I also love manga. Rurouni Kenshin, Berserk, FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Hayate the Combat Butler are my top 5 favorites.

Currently am watching an anime called Sankarea. I watched the first 3 episodes in one day and man, they were so sad but the anime looks very promising. I can’t wait to find out what will happen. If it does have a flaw though, a flaw that isn’t really a flaw, it is that the main villian is utterly, irredeemably, absolutely loathesomely evil. My gosh I have never seen a villian with so few redeeming qualities and who commits such utterly petty acts of selfishness and what he does to his daughter who is the titular character is vile beyond belief. I’m so angry and furious right now but furious in a good way. I love it when a show makes me feel so much for a character. The main character is also great, being really quirky and while he is a bit of a jerk, he’s still really likable and proves himself by the third episode that he isn’t as stoic as he would like to pass for.

The only new show i’m surely watching from the winter season is Maoyu.

Then I have Orsehura, Love Live and Sasami on the 3 episode rule.

Continuing seasons and ongoing series that I am still watching are:

Chihayafuru S2
AKB0048 S2
Minami-Ke Tadaima
Space Brothers
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Psycho-Pass
Robotics;Notes
Gintama
Yamato 2199

Speaking of Jojo, I was quite surprised and then amused when I saw the Gucci store in Manhattan featuring Jojo fashion and illustrations.

Penguindrum’s first half was good but it got more convoluted as it went on and dropped off a bit by the end. Still, it was an above average show.

Like you, I enjoyed watching Ghost Hound a lot and find myself listening to the OP frequently. Star Driver was also a very enjoyable show to watch, I personally loved the school play episode.

Just finished Sankarea. I’m actually writing a review on my animelist for it. What can I say? It’s a series about a guy who has a zombie girlfriend. Now you might except some ecchi rubbish but it isn’t. It is very deep, thought provoking, sad, sweet and all around a very well written and tearjerking anime. While the ending was a bit abrupt, thats to be excepted for an anime like this one which is probably going to get a second season. If it doesn’t, I will be very, very disappointed because what it gave me was very great. One of the most original and emotional things I’ve seen.

Tantumquantum:

Do you read the JoJo manga too?

I like the graphic style they are using for the anime. The textures, backgrounds, and colors.

Some poses and characters are strange.

Which is intentional. (The poses, I believe, were inspired by Classical/Renaissance art.) I dare you try and replicate the poses. 😃

Oreshura of this season sure does spoof them.

Also, my watch list this season (in no order):

Robotics;Notes
Oreshura
Maoyu
Kotoura-san
Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman
Problem Children
Da Capo III (until the fanservice gets too intense or the show gets too ******)

Once Crunchyroll uploads the 1st 13 episodes, I’ll pick up Little Busters, too.

Also watching some shorts: Senyu, Encouragement of Climb, and Mangirl

It could be. I think that fashion magazines are another reference. Some poses aren’t difficult to replicate, and there are groups of people that gather with that purpose. JoJo posing school, I think is what they are called.

Ironcahpman: I was seeing last week some images of Oreshura, I was surprised they were mentioning JoJo by name.

Blessings!

Say ironchapman, have you ever seen Sankarea? It truly is one of the best anime I have ever seen, enough to make it number 10 in my top ten list of favorite anime.

I saw some of it. It was alright, but I didn’t finish it. Didn’t drop it, but it didn’t keep my attention. Might come back to it someday.

Yeah, I’m liking Maoyu as well. It has that Spice and Wolf atmosphere which is awesome! But I guess that shouldn’t be too surprising since the creator of Spice and Wolf did this one too, and even the voice actors of the main characters are the same!

I’m also watching Chihayafuru 2 - still seems like a feel-good cheery anime. 🙂 And Chihaya is as dense as ever, but I still love her, she has a good heart! 🙂

Also watching Amnesia. This one is definitely strange. We are 2 eps into the story and the “heroine” still doesn’t even have a name (at least not yet), and the circumstances surrounding the “heroine” is still shrouded in mystery. Pretty much everything is though. 😛 It is based off an Otome/Visual Novel.
Anyone here see saikano?
Yes. Do you like crying? 😃 Well, if you are an emotional person, it’s almost impossible to not cry in this one… back when it was first released, it was one of the saddest, yet beautiful animes ever created (in my humble opinion). Nowadays, I think people would argue that Anohana and Angel Beats could rival it - and I wouldn’t blame them either, as I had a good cry in both those as well. 🙂

Cliff Jumper, do you like the Transformers Japanesse G1 series (Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, Zone) ?

Blessings! 🙂
