anyone watching Zetsu no tempest?episodes 9 and 10 almost drove me crazy!:banghead:
As for naruto shippudden manga 628 issue wasnt released ytday.I wonder whats going to bhappen now that Sasuke has turned g9ood and is siding with the Hokages now.:manvspc:
I’m actually praying that Sasuke isn’t pulling anyone’s leg and that he’s finally turned around. I say this as someone who normally sympathizes with emo characters but the lengths this guy went to was starting to seriously tick even ME.

Lol, at first, I wasn’t sure what anime that was until I clicked the link! Then I was like, “OH! That’s Attack on Titan!” 😃

But yeah, I’ve watched the first 2 eps already, and am eagerly awaiting the 3rd this Sunday. 🙂 It’s prolly my 3rd favorite show this Spring season, after Gargantia and Chihayafuru 2.

I think this is gonna be an action-packed series, or at least I hope so. I’m also hoping the main male protagonist starts to grow up a little bit though because his childish behavior, at times, is a bit annoying. The titans, too, are a bit of a mystery to me, and I’m kinda wondering where they even came from. The best theory I could come up w/was that they are prolly dead (or once alive) humans that were experimented on by mad scientists that want to cleanse the Earth of the humans that currently inhabit it, and create some kind of utopia w/these “new” humans that have been experimented on.

If anyone has read the manga, please don’t spoil it for me! I’d rather find out everything by watching the anime! Thx! 🙂
Oh, a fellow Taichifuru watcher. That and Space Brothers have been my staples every week. For the new season, i’m watching Gargantia, Maou-sama, Valrave and SnK. Loved the last SnK episode with Potato-chan.

Anyone watched Little Witch Academia yet?

Studio Trigger released it on youtube (with subs) and nicovideo. Good move for them to do that. I hope LWA will get an anime series in the future.

So I have this friend who really likes anime (though she prefers manga). Unfortunately, she only likes very romance-heavy shojo. She’s always telling me about how such-and-such is the greatest series ever, and how I need to watch it right now.

Yesterday her current obsession was an anime called Kamisama Kiss based on a manga of the same name. It’s about a girl who becomes a shinto goddess and gains a bishonen yokai familiar in the process. Its premise is very similar to that of Inuyasha, but the atmosphere is more like a shojo and there is no giant shonen plot- it’s almost pure romance and comedy.

I’m kinda surprised by how much I like it. I shouldn’t be- after all, I did like Inuyasha apart from its excruciating pace, and I don’t really have anything against romance… but something about this show makes it seem a little more… I dunno. Questionable. Maybe it’s the frequent kissing as part of the familiar deals, but I think it’s mostly the fact that the series is, at its core, a fantasy about having a super yokai bishonen boyfriend who does all your housework and has to do whatever you say.

It’s mostly the “has to do whatever you say” part that rubs me the wrong way- in Inuyasha, the dynamic was a special case, and Inuyasha was a legitimate danger to Kagome and the villiage, so it made sense. In Kamisama Kiss, ALL familiars are required to do whatever their masters say. Some are happy, some are miserable, but at the end of the day, they’re all pretty much slaves no matter how well the kami may treat them. But maybe I’m thinking too hard about this. At least Nanami is better about abusing her power than Kagome is. It just makes me uncomfortable because I know I’d find the story all kinds of messed up were the genders reversed. On the other hand, I also dislike stories where there is a huge difference in power between the male and female leads. Maybe this is better than having an unrestrained yokai run around and have lots of power over the human girl. I don’t know.

On the other hand, it’s still a lot of fun. Tomoe apparently has some limited ability to go against Nanami’s orders, and on the whole he doesn’t seem too upset about his lot in life after the first few episodes. It’s fun to watch him and Nanami argue, and it’s sweet to watch them worry about each other. I dislike tsunderes unless there are 2 of them in a relationship, at which point they become hilarious and occasionally heartwarming.

It’s just that the premise is a teeeensy bit creepy. :o Other than that, I like it. Especially Tomoe’s reaction to being told that Nanami likes him- he accidentally drops her off of a building. It’s kinda hilarious and sweet at the same time, like most of what happens in the show.

Kamisama Kiss FTW.

Where do I turn in my man card?
:rotfl:

I think I’m going to finish this one up- it’s only 13 episodes and the sweetness mostly outweighs the creepiness. Also there is melodrama. Lots and lots of melodrama. Like dropping girls off buildings. 😃 (Sometimes I don’t know if I’m enjoying it ironically or not. :o)

It’s on the funimation website for free, if anybody’s interested.

^Yep, Kamisama Kiss is one of the shojo series I can tolerate, along with Maidsama and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun. As long as they stick reasonably close to the romance and avoid too many sparkles and weird character traits in their guys, I can tolerate a shojo story. If nothing else, they usually do romance better, IMO.

Although it’s not technically an anime, I preordered this figure of Estelle from Tales of Vesperia. One of my favorite video games, and the art is done by one of my all time favorite mangakas/manga artists: Kosuke Fujishima (who writes & draws Oh! My Goddess, BTW). She’ll look awesome next to my figure of Yuri Lowell.

You don’t have to turn in your man card dude, I myself look up to manly men like Guts and Superman but I love romance like Clannad and even Fruits Basket (a bit, because the manga wasn’t very good…).

Seeing as you’re a Hayate fan ironchapman, what do you think of the new season?

Not even watching it. The last season was bad enough.

If I had more time, I might try it, but with all that’s on my plate this semester, I’d rather watch things that won’t ruin my image of one of my favorite anime/manga series.

Not to be rude or anything, but… What was wrong with Fruits Basket?

The friend who reccomended Kamisama Kiss was also insisting that it was superior to Fruits Basket. So far, I don’t really get it. Kamisama Kiss is sweet, but Fruits Basket is inspiring. Fruits Basket’s real strength is the non-romantic relationships, though, so maybe that’s why romance fans don’t like it as much? 🤷

Is there a legal, safe place to read Fruits Basket online? I watched the anime, and enjoyed it enough that I would like to get the “full” story.

I don’t think so. 😦 It’s really popular, though, so you might check your local library. I read the copies in my school library. 🙂

To be honest, the other anime, Can’t take my eyes off you was far from bad in my opinion, jsut flawed. The story was actually engaging, the animation was for Hayate brilliant even if some of the character designs did suffer and the revelations they had on Nagi’s dad were just great. it did suffer from pacing issues and I wish it had more comedy and over the topness in it (although the comedy they did give us was some of the funniest in Hayate history. I mean come on, don’t tell me you didn’t laugh at the quiz show part!). The slightly darker tone did bother me also though although not by much.

Anime of Fruits Basket aside which is a betrayal of the manga, I merely said it wasn’t very good not bad. There are going to be heavy, heavy spoilers for Fruits Basket so don’t read it if you haven;t read the manga first or don’t plan to anyway. I did find the main couples relationship, while being really sweet and believable in the end to not have had much romantic buildup. They’re shown being friends but not in a very romantic/platonic way. Another couple and my biggest problem is that the main villain Akio and one of the main cast, Shigure actually flipping end up together and we’re supposed to see this as a good thing. I know Akio did a LOT of horrifying things but at this point she had already changed and while Shigure did figure in changing her personality and breaking the curse, he did so by lying and cheating on her and using emotional abuse to achieve his ends, something Tohru was flabbergasted by. Whether he had good or bad intentions, if I were a woman I would NOT stay with such a man. I think it would have been better if they showed them rejecting each other mutually.

The manga, scantalation or not also had severe editing problems. Honestly, half the time especially in the beginning, I didn’t know what the characters said because either the panels were placed really awkwardly or the characters said things that would not make sense in normal English. The series needed a better editor. Some of the homosexual overtone jokes did get on my nerves because I saw them as obnoxious attempts at comedy (although Yuki confronting the principle, I did find that funny) and the way Tohru’s best friends treat Kyo near the end got me really angry because they went beyond being protective of Tohru and into downright bullying, even though we’re supposed to see it as either funny or justified.

Now Fruits Basket in my opinion is the best shojo out there. I love Tohru and the way she changed everyone for the better, I love the characters in the series and their emotional turmoil (except Yuki’s mother and especially Kyo’s father, I DESPISE them) and despite some flaws, it has a place in my heart. I give it a 6/10 for fine.

The “second season” (or iteration) of Hayate was bar far the best for me. I lost interest in Can’t take my eyes off you after about 3 episodes. Not saying I’ve dropped it, but it’s in that limbo of “not bad enough to drop, not interesting enough to make it a priority to continue”.

I’ll just stick to the manga unless I hear of something amazing happening.

Oh, yeah, I definitely agree that the anime is a “betrayal”- I can’t even watch it.

SPOILER LINE —

Note, I’m biased because Fruits Basket was my gateway manga, so I really like it now. 😃

I guess I remembered different things about the manga version- I liked Kyo and Tohru’s relationship, even though Yuki is one of my favorite characters. I don’t even remember Akito’s ending other than that she decided to live as a woman, and if she does end up with Shigure that is bad judgement on her part. Not that I think Akito has the best judgement anyway.

The somewhat-annoying jokes in Fruits Basket actually hold a special place in my heart, but that’s due to personal stuff. I had been told from a very early age that reading romance stories was sinful (well, more like thinking about romance in any capacity whatsoever, but you get the point). Most of it went over my head anyway on the first read-through, and what little I got I thought was bad, but I had to keep reading. I was actually so embarrassed by the books that I hid behind the library shelf to read all of them. :o if I hadn’t, though, I would have missed out on lots of great stories later. 😉

So what other anime or manga do you like? Have you ever seen Clannad or Kanon? They both have great romance but Clannad has the definite best and most realistic romance I have ever seen in any work of fiction. Also, while not really a romance, I love, love, LOVE Sankarea. It’s not the greatest anime ever or even one of the greatest ut it’s one of the most emotionally costing anime and manga I have ever seen and read and it is one of the few stories out there that breaks my heart just thinking about it. My gosh I loved the main character of Rea!

Worst romance and anime I have ever seen was School Days. Avoid at all costs.

I haven’t read much romance yet- the only other ones I’ve seen are Ouran High School Host Club and Kamisama Kiss. And Spice and Wolf, if that counts. Most of the others I like have romance in them but aren’t “romances” per se. I’ve heard good things about Clannad, so I might check it out.

My tastes tend to be all across the board when it comes to anime- some sci fi, some fantasy, some shonen, some shojo, some random classics… I don’t like to limit myself to any one genre.

I’ve heard of the infamy of School Days- I ended up watching the last scenes of it only. I hear the ending is major mood whiplash from the rest of the series.

Yeah, me too. I prefer anime and works of fiction that are varied in their genre. I really suggest you read 20th Century Boys or watch Monster, they are just two of the great works of fiction ever.

Monster’s already on my list. I haven’t heard much about the other.
