Having enjoyed the opening theme of Princess Nine for years, I finally started watching.

Didn’t think I’d like it, because of the source material (a somewhat annoying American film) but I love it. Excellent characters and conflict set in an exclusive girl’s high school. AND soundtrack by the Warsaw Philharmonic! 👍

Oh so I watched Aquarion Evol (haven’t seen the first one). I am usually not big into Mech anime, but it looked pretty good (but oh the teenage hormones, LOL). So it wasn’t a great anime but it was worth it if only for the closing theme (and the rest of the sound track). And I usually don’t like Japanese pop music much (the tonality of the singers gets to me, but this song the singers take on a more western vocal sound).

I am currently watching Blue Exorcist, it is alright fun for now, and it might get me back into watch Soul Eater, kids at school learning to battle demons. 😛 I started watching soul eater but the introductory episodes were kind of dull.

Aquarion evol, I’ve read it has fanservice and nudity.

(tvtropes links, so warning about language)

Darker than black.

I haven’t seen it, but I like the music of the series.

Currently, I’m searching for older series to watch.

God bless you!

Yes it does, inappropriate clothing and fan service, the nudity is transformation nudity, so barbie doll nudity.

I can’t say I liked it enough to go back and watch the original, though the music was great. 😛 I may some day try Aquarion.

What about other inappropiate content?

The tvtropes “ymmv” section of the series’ article hints at other things, but as that acronym implies it could be a subjective perception on the part of thw writers of the article.

What is that one about?

Content warnings?
It’s about an elite high school’s all-girl baseball team, and the rivalry between two of the players. Excellent characterizations, interpersonal drama, and surprises. Underlying themes nobility, love and teamwork.

Mild fanservice in the form of short skirts, summer tops, nothing offensive so far. I really enjoy the symphonic background music and the opening and closing songs. This is the sub; all voice actors are wonderful.

Next on our watchlist will be Deltora Quest, which I saw on TV in the form of a dub, and I want to look for the sub.

hmm, its been awhile and like I said it wasn’t best ever. Death, some teenagers die. Oh and every time they create their “Aquarion” they speak of it in thinly veiled sexual (as in sexual intercourse) innuendo. (Like I said teenage hormones, it is pretty corny). Bad guy verbally physically and sexually assaults main heroine. The start of the series the boys and girls are separated by the “Berlin Wall” (wow that is bad taste), because last time a boy and girl fell in love they destroyed the world because of the Aquarion. Well when the main hero, breaks the Aquarion’s chastity belt(?) boys and girls now can pilot the Aquarion together. But Romance is forbidden. So there is a lot of boys trying to get to the girls side etc. eventually the wall breaks in an attack (because an alien race is trying to kidnap females because all of theirs die out, some sort of weird earth mother type theory). The whole series is supposed to be exploring love. There is one instance of strong manly friendship love, that could be interpreted other ways, but the anime can definitely be interpreted as innocent.

Thanks.

And about Darker than Black? I only know some about the music, and the info on sites like anidb and tvtropes.

Thanks.

I loved the first season of Darker than Black, mature themes like a crime drama on tv. Murder, death, revenge, moral relativity. No sexual themes in the series, There is passing nudity.

Explicit, or censored?

I finished “Blue Exorcist” It was kind of funny because they have all there symbols and religions mixed up, and I wonder how they can make a coherent story at all. But it was fun. The son of Satan is adopted by a exorcist/priest(?) but when Satan kills his dad, he wants to become an exorcist in order to get revenge sort of(?) but in the meantime can’t reveal that he is spawn of Satan and must learn to control his demon powers. Of note is that his twin brother became the youngest exorcist ever and did not inherit Satan’s powers like his brother.

Not sure if I am going to take a break from anime for lent or not. What are you all watching?

Still watching Princess Nine, and it’s only 26 eps.

‘Blue Exorcist’ doesn’t sound like my kind of show.

LOL, it is definitely not one of my top 10, but it wasn’t terrible.
I saw some image macro about the series, about an scene with the Priest and an ambulance. It seems that he is rather vocal about his appreciation for women.

Oh yes I remember that scene, it was a flash back, his ‘son’ broke his ribs throwing a tantrum and he was trying to make him feel better. But they definitely have their religions mixed up, they use interchangeable terminology for christian and buddhist symbols and are otherwise very confused. So a lot of buddhist things get attributed to the ‘catholic’ and vice versa. I would also say that they have almost completely removed the “priest” part of the job of an “exorcist,” it is more like he is a shinto priest who takes care of the “monastery” and exorcises demons on occasions. The references to the “vatican” and “knights of the true cross” are the most hilarious, because they just randomly made stuff up.

It was a “fun” anime, but nothing to write home about. 😛 There is some fan service (required beach episode and one bathing battle scene) and one female character who doesn’t understand the purpose of clothes.

I would probably give it a 5 out of 10.

“When Marnie Was There” - wow! Call me impressed. This film was really good.

Trailer: youtube.com/watch?v=xu8U60uw2Go

Important to point out that this film is NOT a lesbian or yuri romance or anything related to that at all. It’s something very innocent and most dear. Do try to see it. I cannot say more because it will spoil the story.
This is the only Studio Ghibli film since Grave of the Fireflies which had me crying.

The only legitimate way at present is to purchase the Japanese DVD/Bluray. The Bluray is region free and has English subtitles, the DVD is Region 2 but can be played back on many PCs with the right software. Places like Amazon.jp and cdjapan stock it.

I don’t like to cry. Plot summary without spoilers, please?

PS: Having finished Princess Nine, my latest is Deltora Quest, which is really really tough to find subtitled.
