Salam!

What do you think about your Muslim brethren in the Asian steppe practicing shamanism? Yes, they say they’re Muslims, but practicing traditional beliefs. Asian steppe people are not shy about their practices. It’s a known fact. For example, before people go on a long journey, people ask a (female) witch doctor to perform a good luck spell on them. Why don’t they ask Allah for protection. What do you think of that? Are they Muslims?

Masallama!

If you have read any of my posts you will know that I am not an Islamic appologist, but I would assume that true Muslims would think the same thing about them that we Catholics think about Voodoo or Wiccan. From the little I know about Islam, I don’t think a person who goes to witch a doctor or shaman is a true Muslim. Maybe they are MINO’s (Muslim in name only). If my perception of Islam is wrong in this matter I am sure some Muslim will correct me.

Lance is correct. Going to fortunetellers or sorcerers is considered disbelief in Islam. Similarly, going to witch doctors or the like, all of this is considered an act of disbelief in Islam. However, there are ofcourse conditions that have to be met before a Muslim is considered an apostate due to such acts.
