. . . ankle scapular?

So I saw a woman and her daughter at the post office this week. Both were wearing a brown Carmelite scapular (and the cross and St. Benedict medal), wrapped around their ankles.

What’s the story here? Is this a new thing, or were they inventing some new fashion statement?
 
I recently saw my nephew doing the same thing.

My understanding is that a scapular, as a mini version of the part of a monk’s habit…is to be worn over the shoulders with one piece in front and another in back. I thought that was part of the discipline.
 
Sounds like a fashion statement, like you see rock stars wearing Rosaries, I even had a girl come into one of my shops and looked at the inexpensive Rosaries, then I saw her trying them on and looking in the mirror to see how they looked, so I asked the Blessed Mother if all she wanted from a Rosary was a piece of jewelry to not let her find one she liked and she did not get one, and people wonder why we can’t see blessed objects.🙂

I would have refused to sell it to her if she did find one.

Scapular → Scapulare → Scapulae = Shoulders. To wear it around one’s ankle is wrong.

It pains me to hear it might be a fashion statement. I take mine as seriously as anything I can be serious about. I spent a lot of time thinking it over before getting invested with it. Where do these foolish notions come from?😦

The media and/or the so called “rock stars”. Madonna wearing a rosary, a lot of latino/mexican singers wearing rosaries, you also see them wearing them in tv shows. 🤷
