Sounds like libs can dish it out, but they can’t take it.

Coulter uses liberal language mixed with some sarcasm, … and the libs fly into a rage.

That’s what she is trying to extract from them … and to demonstrate to us and to the uncommitted fence-sitters … that the libs are mostly rage … all uncontrolled id.

And she is very successful at it.

They can’t debate her successfully … so they turn to violence. Liberal speakers don’t have to worry too much about being attacked at the podium by pie-throwers, but libs do that to her.

If liberals want to be treated respectfully, perhaps they could behave that way themselves.

Some years ago, I was asked to moderate a debate between a lib and a conservative, and when the debate started to go against them, the libs started a riot. Really. **

You’re right that’s the liberal playbook you debate them with truthful facts and they attack you personally.

The internet is full of crazy, nasty people on both sides of the aisle.
I’m talking about main stream liberal websites people on them are just hatful.

I go to main stream conservative websites and the people are not that hatful if any.

Ann Coulter is a Nun compared to what liberals say. Have you ever visited any liberal websites?
Yes. Why is this even relevant? Do you think liberals are good moral examples to follow?

Frankly, I don’t hear liberals saying publicly the kind of things “conservatives” say publicly. Now either that means that vicious language is more mainstream among conservatives, or that the media are more tolerant of nastiness among conservatives. The latter might be an insidious plot by the media to discredit conservatives by giving publicity to the crackpots. But conservatives fall into this trap by applauding said crackpots, buying their books, and posting their silly sayings as if they were pearls of wisdom.

But at any rate, comparison is pointless. When you find someone on this forum admiring one of the liberals who says equivalent (or, as you claim, worse) things, then by all means denounce such a person.

I don’t see why you think you can defend Coulter by claiming that liberals say even worse things. Why don’t we all just ignore the people who sling empty insults instead of making real arguments, no matter what their ideology is?

Edwin

Even if you dislike Coulter, I would ask you to please read Treason just read it. Then read the book she cites more than any other reference for this work; Venona: Decoding Soviet Espionage in America by John Earl Haynes and Harvey Klehr.

These two books, which are well written and thoroughly referenced, are very eye opening. Whether you like Coulters style or not, she does do a lot of research before she offers her conclusions on the data. You can take or leave her conclusions but the reasearch is there for you to come to your own conclusions.

The reality is that Joe McCarty knew there were communist spies in the highest levels of the federal government. His crime: Saying there were communist spies in the highest levels of the federal government.

p.s. Haynes & Klehr are far from the Right Wing.

No, she’s not.

I’m not sure I’m a “fence-sitter”–I have some very strong views that fall on both sides of the political spectrum. But I’m a “fence-sitter” in the sense that I’m not committed to any particular faction or party as currently defined. I’m quite willing to support anyone who
a. emphasizes those issues I think are important and on which I agree with them, and is open to compromise on the others; and
b. generally expresses themselves in a wise and virtuous manner (of course I don’t know if this means that they are themselves wise and virtuous).

Coulter does neither of these things. And I can’t imagine that any other “fence-sitter” would be any more impressed. She *only *whips up the faithful–those who sign on *in toto *to her ideology.

You keep claiming that “liberals say even worse things.” First of all, that’s irrelevant. But second of all, it utterly baffles me how you think Coulter’s rhetoric will somehow “expose” this liberal nastiness. It does exactly the opposite. It gives them camouflage. Coulter is so colorful, so irrational, and so downright obnoxious that (to me at least) she eclipses whatever the liberals are saying.

Almost the only time I hear about this liberal “nastiness” is when people like Coulter are complaining about it–and of course she shrouds it in so much nastiness of her own that it doesn’t have the desired effect.

I don’t mean that I haven’t heard liberals say some silly and vicious things. Particularly when academics sit around and talk over a beer, they can make some extreme remarks. At one conference in England in 2003, I heard someone claim (half-seriously) that Rumsfeld was “undead” because you couldn’t see his eyes clearly. That kind of stuff. Not really in the Coulter league. I guess I don’t hang out on the right websites. But the point is I don’t have to hang out on the right websites to hear Coulter. I turn on a major news network (Fox–which needs to stop pretending to be the underdog), and there she is much of the time. I turn to a “liberal” network and I don’t hear that kind of talk.

Edwin

I never heard main stream conservatives wish that our political leaders would die or be killed.

For the last eight years I’ve heard that come out of liberals.

Now there are liberals like Alan Combs and Juan Williams I like them and respect their views don’t agree with most them but these are decent men.

I like Whoopi Goldberg is another one I respect she has facts and is not afraid to debate a conservative.

Just like Al Gore will not debate with a real scientist about global warming the same is true with most liberals they will not debate people with real facts.

I posting this stuff because people are saying that Ann Coulter is some nasty woman I’m just saying look what the other people are saying.

Let the record show right here on this thread you have liberals calling conservatives names and there is no call for that.

Really!?!

Just remember back to when Dan Rather defended the use of forged documents to attack President George W. Bush for his service in the Texas Air National Guard.

No one in the Main Stream Media pointed out that the National Guard uses a point system for measuring service rather than continuous years of service.

They didn’t point out that George W. Bush could fly a single-seat, single-engine, F-102 supersonic interceptor at night and in bad weather to fly in close formation with suspect airplanes to make an identification. With no access to inflight refueling … so after an hour or so, when the plane ran out of fuel, he would have to eject.

sorry, but I’ve seen things said HERE that make me cringe, not to mention the kind of statements that get made at sites like Free Republic. Now, liberal sites like Democratic Underground are equally rude and nasty-but let’s not pretend that ONLY one side is capable of attracting people who are rude, nasty and just plain ignorant.

and you have conservatives here calling liberals some pretty rude things too.

Let’s try not to make sweeping generalizations about EITHER side. There are rude liberals, rude conservatives and rude moderates.

Dear Catholics in this forum,
Code:
Actions speak lowder than **ugly words**

If you really want to stop the culture of death in our Government

Get out there with your rosary beads across from your nearest

                                                 abortion mill...Truly wittness and pray!

                                   t
done that…

didn’t work… at least didn’t work like some people’s actions did… didn’t shut down an abortion clinic like some “criminal” did not so long ago…

So you would rather shoot people than pray? You think that’s really the right response to this?

Which “main stream” liberals? And where was this said? On a major news network, as Coulter’s atrocities are?
I posting this stuff because people are saying that Ann Coulter is some nasty woman I’m just saying look what the other people are saying.
But why? The thread is about Coulter. If there is some equally prominent liberal saying equally revolting things, by all means start a thread about that. But all you do is make vague claims about what people on blogs supposedly say. (I believe you–people say all kinds of horrific things on blogs. But Coulter isn’t just some wacko blogger. She’s regularly featured as a news commentator and her books are in major bookstores.)
Let the record show right here on this thread you have liberals calling conservatives names and there is no call for that.
Perhaps you are talking about my referring to Coulter and Limbaugh as “vicious buffoons.” I don’t consider myself a liberal, but you can call me anything you find convenient.

Obviously I have no problem with calling people names when they deserve it. I have no problem with Coulter attacking specific people who have said or done indefensible things. (If she wanted to call Al Franken a vicious buffoon, I would stand back and let the two of them go at it.) But that’s not what she does. She routinely makes blanket statements about Muslims, liberals, and any other group she dislikes.

Where has anyone on this thread made similar nasty blanket statements about liberals?

Edwin

Granted I believe Republicans are just using Christians on the Pro-Life issue.(end quote)

Thank you Stan, for at least admitting how they use the abortion issue as a wedge tactic. I really can’t believe how I got caught up in this impossible kind of discussion. It really does blind us to what is most important.:shrug:Carlan
well, i DON"t believe they “use” Christians one the abortion thing… The whole party is pro0-life and if you will notice, they didn’t change their position just because a lib won this time… so how is that using…?

i guess republicans are just lying about being pro-life… if so… seems a lot of peple here aren’t doing much better…

So you would rather shoot people than pray? You think that’s really the right response to this?
yeah and when pepole were looking for Ted Bundy… they should have just prayed…

forget abaout all that man-hunt stuff… Just pray… So you have a daughter who fits the type Bundy liked? Just pray…

so your daughter was killed by Bundy?

oh well… the death penalty is wrong anyhow…

Really!?!

Just remember back to when Dan Rather defended the use of forged documents to attack President George W. Bush for his service in the Texas Air National Guard.
You mean that he defended the use of documents which turned out to be forged. He didn’t say “using forged documents is OK.” He claimed that they were not forged. I fail to see how this is remotely similar.
No one in the Main Stream Media
Not even on Fox? What do you mean by “Main Stream Media”?
pointed out that the National Guard uses a point system for measuring service rather than continuous years of service.

No one is unbiased. Of course much of the “main stream media” has a liberal bias. (Although people I respect, such as my priest, have argued that the “main stream media” actually let Bush off the hook for years. Lest I create a misunderstanding, he wasn’t saying this in an official capacity but in private conversation.)

I don’t actually understand what you are saying about Bush’s flying abilities, but at any rate this hardly compares to blatant, cynical, supposedly humorous remarks that are patently indefensible both rationally and morally. You’re claiming that the main stream media" failed to point out some facts in Bush’s favor. Perhaps they did. But comparing this to what Coulter does is like me as a professor comparing a failure to use the best possible sources in the best possible way with outright plagiarism. One results in a somewhat lower grade, depending on the degree of the failure. The other is an automatic F.

Edwin

The death penalty is wrong as it is currently applied, it should be used fairly and as an absolute last resort when there is no other way to protect society from the criminal. When it must be used, it must be used in the context of the legal system.

Law enforcement is responsible for hunting down people like Bundy. Citizens taking the law into their own hands and shooting people they disagree with is WRONG.

that’s your opinion. Do you know anything about the Bundy case? Law enforcement had him, then was careless & he escaped… He killed two other females, one just a child… HOw would you feel if YOUR child were his victim? or your (fill in blanks) …loved one…
Law enforcement is responsible for hunting down people like Bundy. Citizens taking the law into their own hands and shooting people they disagree with is WRONG.
i agree…

until you speak of murder…

if Ted Bundy had been free and you had heard him tell you he was going to kill some woman… and you just let him do it because you can’t take the law into your own hands… well… then you and i worship a different God…

Why do you find this admirable? It seems utterly childish to me. I don’t see why a person who behaves in such a manner should be listened to for a minute.

Edwin
I agree with you 100 percent. If you really want people to listen to your ideas (and actually want change, instead of a pointless debate), you will talk in a way that draws people in, not pushes them out.

I’d probably be in agreement with a few of her political beliefs if I had the heart to sit down and read about her. But due to her annoying, arrogant behavior, I steer clear of her.

Maybe we as a society should focus more on listening and peaceful conversation instead of mindless yelling and prideful boasting.

Ann Coulter is a Nun compared to what liberals say. Have you ever visited any liberal websites?
Since when did other people’s actions make saying and doing vile things excusable? Just because they say bad things doesn’t give you clearance to say hateful things too.

Fail.

And let’s all agree to NEVER compare a political commentator to a Sister who spends her entire life devoted to service to God. There’s absolutely no comparison.
