well, that’s your opinion…I don’t know why you are having trouble understanding me. It’s not as if I and several others haven’t been harping on Coulter’s call for mass murder (carpet bombing Muslim countries) for much of this thread. This is not atypical. American “conservatives” typically support the death penalty, are quick to support for just about any war the government chooses to engage in (unless it has a clearly humanitarian objective and doesn’t promote American self-interest–then they’re a bit more dubious about it) and to promote the use of ruthless means to win the war, and more broadly tend to take a “tough” approach to issues surrounding human welfare, expecting people to take care of themselves and look out for no. 1. (For instance, “conservatives” typically oppose any amnesty for illegal aliens, arguing that the sanctity of human law is far more important than the desire of poor Mexicans and other immigrants to take care of their families.) You yourself were quick to say of torture that “it’s war” and therefore any means necessary are OK. Conservatives also tend to have little regard for nonhuman life.
Given this broad pattern of comfort with violence, callous disregard for human (and animal) suffering, and promotion of individual and national self-interest, it’s understandable that many Americans are unimpressed when *these same people *oppose abortion and euthanasia and pose *with regard to these issues *as the noble champions of human life and the rights of the weak and helpless. It just doesn’t fly. Something stinks. So many liberals argue that these are false issues–that in fact promoting the rights of the unborn and those nearing the end of life is a distraction from the real issues threatening human life and dignity. This is also a bogus argument. We don’t need to pick the places where we are prolife. There is absolutely no reason why we can’t just defend human (and even nonhuman) life and dignity across the board. But for some reason the political machinery of this country seems deeply invested in preventing us from taking such a position. And those of you who promote one or another partisan vision of what it means to be “prolife” are just contributing to the problem. You are giving an excuse to your opponents on the other side of the spectrum to continue their own callous disregard for human life.
Edwin
well maybe poster should have said you are far LESS pro-life than … say, those who voted for McCain… those who support those who are pro-life…(A Coulter)… etc…Would you please go back and re-read our posts? Our dislike for Ann Coulter DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE PRO-DEATH! That has NEVER COME UP! For some stupid reason, you are equating a dislike for Ann Coulter and her hate speech as not taking the abortion cause seriously.
.
Disgracewell, i agree with this much of your post![]()
That makes no sense. Why the constant insertion of … ?well maybe poster should have said you are far LESS pro-life than … say, those who voted for McCain… those who support those who are pro-life…(A Coulter)… etc…
Ok, now i kinda like you…That makes no sense. Why the constant insertion of … ?
Am I the poster or are you referring to someone else? If it’s me, then yes I did vote for McCain.
In short for you politics trumps faith everytime. That does not suprise me in the least.I bet alot of the “Catholics” you hang around with vote for pro death candidates. Why ill bet they even went against the clear teachings of the Church and voted for Obama.
I personally went with the clear teachings of the Church and voted for the candidate that I thought had the best chance of increasing access to health care, improving the economic situation especially for the poor and, eventually, bringing more peace and stability to our nation.
The idea that some whacky right-wing Catholics can sit around and tell those of us on the left that we are somehow “less Catholic” than they are because we voted for a pro-choice candidate is laughable. I think abortion is evil. Just as the poster I quoted here. However, I do not believe that an outright ban is the solution. How do your boy Bush do in banning abortion?
And let us talk about Barney Frank. Frank is a good congressman. He put that loud mouthed ignorant woman in her place. Let us not forget that she was comparing increasing access to healthcare to a level that is more in line with the rest of the world to a policy that waged war on all civilization and exterminated 6 million people. I applaud Frank for not being harsher with her.
Or you one of those that hang out on the internet just to play “Devil’s advocate” or are you truly naive enough to believe that?its the pro-life party
so it is God’s party…
This made me laugh out loud…NOW I need to get a book of hers! Here’s one of my favorite from Coulter:
"According to liberals, the message of Jesus… is something along the lines of ‘be nice to people.’ … In fact, Jesus’ distinctive ‘message’ was: People are sinful and need to be redeemed, and this is your lucky day because I’m here to redeem you even though you don’t deserve it and I have to get the **** kicked out of me to do it. That is the reason He is called ‘Christ the Redeemer’ rather than 'Christ the Moron Driving Around in a Volvo with a “Be Nice to People” Bumper Sticker on it.”

Miss Coulter turned ME around precisely due to her ‘abrasive’ approach. For every person, there is an entryway.Like others, I’ve never been able to get past her abrasive approach. IMO, it’s counterproductive. The reasoned approach of someone like George Will seems to me to be much more likely to win converts.
.
But an entryway to what? From your posts, I am not convinced that Ms. Coulter provided you with an “entryway” to anything good or holy. In fact, your advocacy serves to discredit her further in my opinion, given the consistently immoral nature of the positions you argue on this forum.Miss Coulter turned ME around precisely due to her ‘abrasive’ approach. Most people aren’t as smart as they think they are.I can’t stand Ann Coulter. She isn’t as smart as she thinks she is.
Oh I see!!! An immoral position is the opposition to abortion and all those who deem it a rightful choice. Ann at least speaks her mind about this evil and somehow she and the posters in this forum are the immoral ones???But an entryway to what? Wrong: The criticism of Ann Coulter’s speech has to do with this quote: “We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren’t punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That’s war. And this is war.”]And the talk is focused on the blunt and abrasive nature of Ann Coulter in the defense of the unborn.
You can do that without an obscene call for forced religious conversions, which is what Anne Coulter advocated with that quote. Or taking human life for granted, as she did when she said that timothy mcveigh should have visited the New York Times Building.Ann Coulter is trying to tell us that we need to take appropriate action in all four areas … and she is being criticized for warning us that we need to take action … because we are at war … which some people a lot of people ] deny.
