Coulter, like Limbaugh, who employs hyperbole and satire to great effect has a huge body of work which constitutes a particular style. They both utilize the tactic of illustrating absurdity with absurdity, and it takes more than a tweet to pick up on their humor and sarcasm. It’d be like trying to “get” Jim Gaffigan as a person by listening to one riff about Hot Pockets. Find me the liberal whose fake outrage over this exceeds Coulter’s real defense of Israel and Jews all the time, and I’ll find you the liberal whose abhorrence of the acts of ISIS is genuine enough to cite the verses in the Koran they use to justify them.

I’m outraged, it’s not fake, and I’m not a liberal. More to the point, though, I have not read her books, and if I need to in order to properly understand where she’s coming from, I’m not interested. I guess I’ll have to leave it at that regarding this topic.

To those equating her with Rush Limbaugh, I listen to him sometimes and he says things that are right to the line on occasion but I can’t imagine him every doing something like this.

Rush Limbaugh has been known to make some very bad decisions about what he says, sometimes based on limited information which he talks about forcefully before finding out what he needs to know. There’s one particular example in which he defended the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) on air for several minutes because the only thing he knew about them was the basic statement that they’ve made about themselves. So he goes on about how these are good, God-fearing people and why would anyone criticize them, much less send people to fight them?

Then he refused to apologize for the gaffe and mostly enjoyed the fact that he and his staff got their names in the Congressional record once the transcript was quoted on the floor of the Senate. A 22-year-old woman who had been mutilated by the LRA while being used as a mule demanded that he apologize, and he did not.

Taken together, all of that is probably worse than what Coulter did.
