i really like the story of anne frank and i have read her diary and books about her so many times…and i have watched movies about her…i don’t know…her story seems to have struck something in me…

anne wasn’t overly religious…but in her diary she did pray…and she even celebrated easter and christmas while in hiding…as well as the jewish holidays

for hannukah she asked her father to buy her a childrens bible…but i think her sister objected that it wasn’t an appropriate gift for hannukah…so i think it was given to her on st nicholas day …

i can’t help wondering that if she was catholic…that maybe she would have been seen as a saint or martyr (that died for the faith)…which she did (she died for being jewish)…

i was wondering do you think she is in heaven…maybe god used all her sufferings on earth in place of purgatory in the next world…

are catholics allowed to pray to her…or are we only allowed to pray to saints/blesseds/venerables/servants of god and our own deceased loved ones…

We can pray for her, but i think it would be imprudent to pray to her.

If you like Anne Frank, I think you will also like Edith Stein (also known as Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross). She was a Jewish woman during the holocaust who eventually converted to Catholicism and became a Carmelite nun. She was martyred at Auschwitz. You can most definitely pray to her!

A website with a brief biography:

A couple of books on her life:

Because she was not a member of the Church at the time of her death, howsoever otherwise admirable she may be.

Saints are not just nice people.

I don’t think we are called to only pray for those who are in agreement with the Church, and who are Catholic. I pray for my atheist friends…and my brothers and sisters in Christ–even if they are not part of the Church. I can’t imagine God wanting us to only pray for those who are Catholic???

i totally agree with you whatever girl…i (like yourself) not only pray for those who are part of the church, my prayers include everyone in the world and everyone in purgatory…i like to think that maybe god likes these type of prayers where we imitate jesus and mary by opening our heart to the needs of others, by stretching out a hand of friendship (even if it is done spiritually instead of physically), and by showing love and mercy to others by praying for them

I think you misunderstood. What Spirithound meant is that since she is not a Saint or Blessed in the Catholic Church we cannot pray to her but we can **pray “for her”. ** At least that is my interpretation of it. 😉

So no one is saying we can’t pray for Anne Frank. As Catholics we can pray for whomever we choose.

😊 I reread…sorry for rushing!😃

If you are inspired by Anne Frank, may I recommend a contemporary version – “Left to Tell” by Immaculee Ilibagiza, a young woman hidden with six others in a small bathroom for 3 months while the massacre of their people went on around them in Rowanda. She was the only member of her family who survived. Her prayer life – especially The Rosary – was her constant companion during those days of horror and tells an amazing story.

I heard her speak a few months ago, an she is beautiful, inside and out.

(She is sometimes seen on the Wayne Dyer specials on PBS and he was instrumental in getting her work published. I am somewhat less than enthralled with him, and if you feel that way, too, don’t let it stop you from reading her book.)

i truely do believe that god saved her, she was lovely, i have her diary and have read it many times, although she wasnt overly showy when it came to religion she did pray and her diary shows that,

i think you could say a modified version of the st gertrude prayer

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory and especially for the soul of Anne Frank, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

And i beg you eternal father to please grant to me through the prayers and intercessions of all the holy souls in purgatory and especially through the prayers and intercessions of Anne Frank the following favours (name request)

amen

i dont see any problem with praying in that way, you are just praying for her and asking for a favour as you would with the holy souls in purgatory (which she could possibly be one) but i wouldnt pray directly to her, i would pray in this way then im praying directly to god and asking god to ask her to pray , then its in gods hands if he wants that to happen, god acts as a go between

Though she is not a canonized saint, there is no reason to believe she did not make it to heaven and is a saint there. None of us but God knows. If there is something about her that compells you, It is a good idea to pray to God to ask for Anne’s entry into heaven. If Anne is already in heaven, God will know to apply the prayers elsewhere, no prayer is ever in vain.
That is the wonderful thing about God… anyone can be in heaven with him! None of us know the state of Anne’s soul - though from her compelling diary we can only assume she was a pure, innocent soul. In His mercy - Jesus can offer himself to anyone at any time.

thats true…when we pray for the holy souls in purgatory we could be praying for souls of people who are from other religions whom god in his mercy has saved, and none of them are known to us or canonised but we cn pray for them and they will pray for us…so if you want to pray for anne then pray for her, you could use the prayer i wrote in my earlier post

I think Anne Frank has as good of a chance as anyone of being in heaven. She did suffer so much and as far as anyone knows, she was a good person. I don’t believe anyone would be exempt from heaven just because they aren’t Catholic. Just as I believe being Catholic doesn’t automatically grant you the gift of salvation. We all need to work for our salvation through a life of prayer, penance and almsgiving. And Anne Frank certainly had her share of penance.

If she is in heaven, then she is a saint. There are no religious denominations in heaven - a saint is a saint. If she is a saint, then she can intercede for you. The problem is, we can never really know.

Here’s another thought - maybe her life has touched you so because she needs your prayers to release her from purgatory. Sometimes when I have a special feeling about someone that has died, I pray for their soul. I take it as a sign that my feelings of compassion can be put to better use through prayer.

I love me some Anne Frank. She has a very innocent, beautiful soul and she sufffered much during her life. She has a good of chance as any of us that she’s in heaven. She sort of reminds me of The Little Flower. If you read some of her quotes, a lot of them are similar. Pray for her, and if she is in Purgatory and needs the prayers, she will pray for you too!

she does remind me of the little flower too…its her childlike trust in god when she prays for her self and others in her diary, and her love of nature…its a pity she had to die, i bet she would have made a big impact on the world ( look at the impact she’s already made and she’s deceased)…i hope i can meet her in heaven and be her friend…i think shes amazing…😃

I was under the impression that we could pray for the repose of the soul for any one who has died because I certainly pray for my family members who were not Catholic who have passed on.

i do that too…i dont exclude anybody because we are all gods children, and to exclude anybody would be judging them

and the bible says judge not lest ye be judged:D
