Looks like Anne Rice missed the following Bible verse:
…:ehh:…Will she pray and concentrate on her own personal relationship with Jesus on facebook as well? Seems to me she didn’t cut out the middleman - and I wonder how many she will take with her?
How arrogant to think that one’s own personal struggles with religion are so note-worthy to publish them for all to read. She obviously wants people to follow “her” and not a church. Sometimes people think waaay to much of their own opinions.
God “allows” all sorts of things that are wrong. So basically you are contending that God allowed everybody to be in error about this for 4,000 years until the “enlightened” came along and realized it?
And God is perfect capable of preventing terrorists from flying planes into buildings, too. But what God can do is not necessarily what He does.God was perfectly capable of revealing to the Jews 4,000 years ago that homosexuality was a normal.
I’m a little disturbed about comments like this one, and other posts within this thread that have been far less than charitable.I guess her 1998 re-version was because she thought Christianity was “nice”. Now she sees it isn’t “nice”, so she takes a step back from it.
The Church does not ask us to reject any person, just certain actions.I don’t believe she…nor I for that matter…have abandoned Eternal Truths…we both cannot blind ourselves to the image of Christ we see in those who are so very different from us…as Ghandi said…“I have no problem with Christ…it is His followers I have problems with.”(paraphrase)
The “leper” she is called to reject in the name of Christ…wears the face of Christ Himself…and THAT she cannot do…I understand her anguish.
*You mean same as being a wife and against your family, same as being a human being and against humanity??She’s like Bono, not into organized religion. She’ll read her Bible and follow Christ, she just doesn’t like how Christian denominations “distorted” Christ’s teachings.
If it is anything like Bono, she’ll pray and concentrate on her own personal relationship with Jesus without the middleman (churches).
*“I love you Jesus but I don’t believe that I should follow your teachings.”I don’t believe she…nor I for that matter…have abandoned Eternal Truths…we both cannot blind ourselves to the image of Christ we see in those who are so very different from us…as Ghandi said…“I have no problem with Christ…it is His followers I have problems with.”(paraphrase)

You and I disagree…friend Anne sees the issue I believe. She cannot “reject” out of hand simply because one’s religious beliefs condemn…science, psychology, sociology and other non-religous disiplinesScience, psychology, sociology are “non religious disciplines”throw light upon the whole issues of human sexuality. The conservative branch of Christianity is wrong…completely…and Anne sees that very clearly…and rejects any notion that she must put her own God-given intellect aside and embrace teachings of a human organization that uses it’s own outdated psychologocal and sociological constructs to vilify the “stranger in it’s midst”. “human organisation”
Discrimination against gay and lesbian people IS based on WHO THEY ARE…not what they do…no matter what frame of reference is used to justify it…those of us branded “liberal” do not abandon God…we abandon falsehoods perpetuated in the name of “religion”. Not so. I can tell you I know a number of people with SSA who are happily part of the Church and they are faithfull.
You and I disagree…that’s ok…we can disagree…Truth is often “fought out” in the public arena…eventually one by one hearts are changed…one by one people begin to see the gulf between what the modern sciences teach and what conservative religion teaches…those of us who are “liberal” embrace both the science and the spirit…we don’t “throw the baby out with the bathwater”…the water the baby is sitting in is dirty…we need a clean tub to wash the child…and one by one hearts are changed.
*It took 11 years but it all started with a scientist and his books that my husband converted from atheism. It was because of science that he began to see the TRUTH!

Really? Where has He revealed that to mankind?God is a God of progressive revelation.
Really? Where has He revealed this to mankind?Just as I do not believe it was God who told the Hebrews to enter Jericho and slaughter every man woman and child…I do not believe it was God who has spoken on this subject…it was tragically fallen, sinful humanity in their ignorance. The message of diversity was long in getting through our mind-blind understanding of the natural world…we are now beginning to understand the wonderful diversity of God’s creation…including the diversity of sexual orientation.
*I see “gay” (stolen word) as a sub-culture where people are permissive and pretend to be happy and believe that by indulging themselves they will achieve the height of happiness. They have hi-jacked the institution of marriage and I can’t imagine what next.My meeting went through years of discussion before the consensus was reached to allow gay and lesbian Quakers into the FULL life of the Meeting…including the celebration of their marriages/unions.
I do understand the issues…but I do not live in the 2nd, 4th, 16th, 18th centuries where sexuality was not understood as clearly as it is today…yet conservative Christians wish to impose ideas and understandings based on “old beliefs” in regard to sociology, psychology, sexuality…I cannot cede any acceptance of that…such beliefs which deny basic human rights to gay and lesbian people to form unions with their chosen partners because of other people’s religious beliefs are WRONG at their very core.
Does the word “vilify” fairy reflets the “conservative Christian point of view”? Perhaps not…but it’s not a far “stones throw”. 50 years ago “Christians” refused housing to gay people. Even I as a straight man could not find an apartment to rent when I moved out on my own IF I took a friend with me to look at it. Two young men looking at an apartment together was not allowed…and it was always “not allowed” by "Christians…even though I was a Christian myself…
I’ve assisted at MCC to form a “corridor” for gay teens to enter the fellowship hall and provide a “safe zone” away from “Christians” calling these teens “perverts”…“abominations”…“sodomites” as these “Christians” held signs “AIDS cures fags”…“Hell cures homosexuality”…I have seen the face of “conservative Christians” as they quoted Bible verses at these kids for going to their prom with their chosen date…something straight kids NEVER have to deal with.
I don’t understand why “Christians” care who someone else loves…I don’t understand why “Christians” would want to prevent them from getting married to each other…but they do.
I do agree…my words I used did come across a bit stronger than they should have…I’ve been called to the hospital to sit with a gay friend who’s family…“Christians”…won’t visit because he was gay…he was “bashed” on his way home from work…three young men picked him up off the sidewalk as they grabbed him from behind and smashed his head into a brick wall…the last thing he remembers is “God hates fags.” being screamed at him…they fractured his skull and face…his left eye was knocked out of it’s socket and he had reconstructive surgery…
Maybe “conservative Christians” don’t vilify gay people…it just sure seems that way…speaking from personal experience in dealing with the casualties of “conservative Christian” love.
*I understand your irritation, hence the comment. However, as Christians we should never speak like that.Good riddance to her, the cafeteria is at over-flow capacity as it is.

for herI don’t think that intelligence makes people less able to recognize their ignorance in comparison to God. I think it is pride, fueled by many years of hearing how brilliant they are, which trains them to rely on their own judgement rather than trusting someone who may know more about God. Such is the case with Anne Rice, people tell her she is a brilliant writer and they affirm what she thinks about morality and Christ, therefore she has decided she knows Jesus better than the Catholic Church. The reason why I said “intelligent” person (which actually effectively refers to the entire humanrace) because sometimes we need to recognise that we are ignorant and dumb, in comparison to God. But the more intelligent we are, the least we are able to recognise this simple truth.
*As C S Lewis said - pride is the basis of all sin (paraphrase).I don’t think that intelligence makes people less able to recognize their ignorance in comparison to God.
I can’t say I am surprised that she left. Prayers for all fallen-away Catholics that they might come to love and understand their faith and return to the Sacraments.
