Even though I am new to the NCR forums I am not new to CAF or online forums in general.
The ‘wild west’ days of the NCR forums are over and certain things will NOT be tolerated.
  1. Proselytizing. If you are here for that reason, exit stage right.
  2. Sock puppets. I didn’t fall off a turnip truck. Even without comparing IPs I can spot them a mile away.
  3. Impersonating clergy. This is especially heinous IMO and will result in instant banishment.

Woohoo! There is a new sheriff in town! :onpatrol:

Welcome Eric, looking forward to it! 🙂

New threads on Islam can proceed on Monday morning.
👍
Otherwise, have fun guys.😉
To whom does rule 1 apply? Are Roman Catholics allowed to continually bait Protestants into threads with titles like “10 reasons while Catholics are right”? Could not that be considered proselytizing? 😉

I agree that rule 1 will be difficult to moderate. This whole site promotes Catholicism.

It would help us all, I think, if you could give us a definition of ‘proselytizing’ as you see it. What actions would constitute that?

For instance, would the thread "Mormons Answers by PeanutBono?"be considered proselytizing? How about “Thirty-Three additional proofs of the One True Catholic Church; the Thirty-Three Doctors of the Church?”

Well moderator ! Whats your answer?

I agree if you simply saying no clear telling anyone to join your faith with links, And I mean both. But if say a Baptist posts a link to his denomination to be part of a thread its a legitimate way to get a point to talk about across I would think.

And the last one who is going to decide what is a clergy person and what isn’t? I hold a perfectly valid US ordination just because it took me two days and no work doesn’t take way the fact its an ordination. My titles are also my church approved and recorded as are my degrees of study. I hate to see this applied to others Wiccans, Native American Shamen and such that have less formalized means of clerical leadership. I would say give everyone the benefit of such a standing if they have the support of their religious path or church. Just my opinion on that.

I’m afraid I don’t understand this.
A ‘sock puppet,’ in internet terms, is someone who invents an online identity for the purpose of agreeing with himself.

For instance, if I, dianaiad, subscribed to CAF under another name…say…“mormonlady,” and have “Mormonlady” agree with everything “dianaiad” said, “Mormonlady” would be a 'sockpuppet…" like a virtual ventrilequest dummy.

It’s considered very, very, very bad netiquette.

…and, by the way, I’ve never done it.–which is pretty obvious since I don’t have that many people who actually agree with me!! 🙂

I normally lock these threads, but I will make an exception this one time.

Proselytizing. Pretty simple to understand and I’ve been here long enough to know what it looks like. The posters who join CAF certainly understand it and are pretty easy to spot. They are looking for ‘souls to win’, not discussion.

Sock puppets. For example, if Matthew Holford’s wife wants to join CAF, but they only have one computer, that is one thing. But if Matt creates a separate account for the purpose of cheerleading his posts or ‘dogpiling’ on other posters, that is a sock puppet. They’re not hard to spot, and they don’t last long.

Impersonating clergy. If there is question, the administrators of this forum will investigate to verify. Some people will attempt it because they think it gives them ‘authority’.
Catholic, Protestant, or any other religion. It makes no difference.

Have a great night.
Eric.

Thank you!

I can get a letter of good standing from my church to provide anybody that cares to investigate my status who is assigned to this from CAF as a ordained member of the clergy of it if needed. That is not a problem. I’m pretty sure it won’t come up.
