Annoying atheist claim

I am feeling annoyed by this cheap shot against the Word of God. I got this from an atheist website, which seems to be claiming that the the story of the Exodus has errors. Read on:

Exodus 9:3 Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field,
upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the
sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain.

Exodus 9:4 And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt:
and there shall nothing die of all that is the children’s of Israel.

Exodus 9:5 And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this
thing in the land.

Exodus 9:6 And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died:
but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.

Now as if by magic, the Egyptians have their horses back:

Exodus 14:6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:

Exodus 14:7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt,
and captains over every one of them.

Exodus 14:25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against
the Egyptians.

There has to be an explanation. Can someone answer?

Ex 9:3 mentions the same disease falling upon the horses and other animals, though.

My own gut feeling is that the disease simply didn’t kill off all the animals.

It’s my understanding that it was the firstborn of the animals that were killed.

The plague of murrain. Murrain was a disease that affected cattle, so this plague was against the black bull, Apis, that the Egyptians worshiped. Now murrain, was apparently a disease common to the Egyptian period of time, because no cattle disease today seems to be related to it. However, it is thought by some that murrain is similar to anthrax.

From what I can find, murrain was a cattle virus. Just because the other animals had it doesn’t mean they necessarily died from it. It is likely that a virus could kill a species selectively, and sicken other animals, but not kill them. Scripture does not contradict itself here. It only specifies the cattle dying, not the other beasts.

The plague was against the livestock. Horses that pull chariots are not livestock. Hashem let the warhorses live, perhaps, in order to make Pharoah’s defeat all the more spectacular.
