the other day i was in the chapel and the Blessed Sacrament was exposed for adoration. i could hear talking and giggling at my right side, i think two guys and the priest. i found it so annoying, and i looked in their direction once and gave a glare, but i don’t know if they saw me. anyway, i know it’s wrong and i felt guilty because in the very presence of Christ I’m getting irritated so i was also asking for forgiveness that very moment.
it’s disappointing that the priest doesn’t even do anything. to be honest, i don’t know what they are talking about, but it’s annoying to hear noises.

Our cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches in America, and we have tourists roaming around, chatting, snapping pictures - you get the idea. Or else we have folks crossing before the Blessed Sacrament so they can go light a candle. And on and on. Distracting? Annoying? You betcha.
But what an opportunity for prayer! I prayerfully place them in the protected garden of our Blessed Mother’s Immaculate Heart. Or I close my eyes. And I smile - it helps secrete serotonin (to help combat anger), and, I hope, it helps make me a good example.
Don’t permit anyone to rob you of your peace.
Don’t permit other people’s “stuff” to get to you.

Beautifully said!! I will use this the next time i pray my rosary in church when i hear people laughing and chatting before mass starts. Your words here are a gift from the Holy Spirit and I THANKYOU!😉

I like to share with you an experience I had last night before the 5:30 Mass started.

I arrived 45 minutes ahead to pray and knelt on the 2nd row.
Some aged people were also there,a few rows behind me.
They were all chatting so loud, as if the tabernacle was not in front of them.

I started to pray, their noise did not bother me too much.
Then the people in front of me on the first row started to talk loud. That was right under my ears.

I was resolved to focus and concentrate. I prayed 4 Chaplet of Divine Mercy for different people. And I was not hearing any conversation around me. By the time I was done, I was pretty amazed and grateful for God’s grace.

our pastor has a substantial clique of parishioners who resent him, and say so loudly to all who will listen, because he refuses to stop and talk, greet people, chat, shake hands etc. inside church. He has repeatedly told us he will be available outside after Mass to visit, but the culture here is to stop what you are doing, even interrupt conversations, to greet every new person, and greetings must be loud, personal and include handshakes and air kisses. NOT appropriate for inside church, but people just will not change.

I find comfort in imagining what Padre Pio would have done in such a circumstance.

I used to get very negative comments about a former pastor in our parish. After several years of this I finally started to tell them in a very nice way that if they were that unhappy and didn’t feel spiritually fed maybe it would be to their benefit to find another parish. After responding in this way to several people, I didn’t get any more complaints.😉

I do sometimes get frustrated with noises during Adoration–I’m slightly ADD, and have trouble concentrating as it is!

What gives me patience is the fact that, more often that I’d like, I’m the source of distracting noises! Something about all that quiet and the reverent sanctity of the space seems to make me clumsy. From dropping my keys on the floor to having a sneezing fit, to twisting my ankle while genuflecting and falling smack onto the floor…luckily, those around me smile, make sure I’m okay, and get on with it!!! :o

it’s a test. i imagine i’m in heaven and the angels and souls are doing the same thing. as long as i imagine they’re praising God, it makes it tolerable. if not, i just leave.
