I had an acquaintance say an annulment is the same as divorce and the Bible says divorce is an aboninmation in the eyes of God? I’ve had a divorce and the marriage was anulled and had my 2nd marriage convalidated some years later… What do you guys/gals think?

Well your acquaintance is incorrect Divorce and Annulment are two different things.

Divorce dissolves a valid union.

An Annulment after proper investigation can determine possibly that no valid spiritual union ever existed from the beginning. It only appeared to be a Marriage.

OR

An Annulment after proper investigation can determine possibly that a valid spiritual union existed from the beginning and therefore is indissoluble.

I think maybe you mean divorce is an attempt to dissolve a presumed valid union or something to that effect. Recognized in Civil Law, but not in Canon Law.

No, A Divorce in civil law dissolves a vald civil union. It has no effect on the Spiritual bond if the spiritual bond exists.

I have to concur. I divorce certainly does disolve the “legal” marriage. The legal marriage no longer exists.

I am a perfect example of the confusion this causes. I am legally divorced. As such, I am no longer legally married. The legal marriage simply no longer exists.

Yet unless a nullity is granted, I am still married to my, legally, former spouse who has been remarried for almost three years. Her remarriage tends to trip a lot of people up when thinking about the fact that unless a nullity is granted I am still married to her (particularly as I live in a mostly non-Catholic area).
