CasperSheen, I am in a very similar situation. I was married, had 2 kids, divorced and remarried a fallen away cradle Catholic in a civil ceremony. Civilly married for 10 years, raising my two and another child together, he decided to return to the Church. I decided to convert. I, too, filed for annulment through our priest and am awaiting a decision. The priest is very confident the annulment will be granted considering the circumstances, but it could take 12-18 months from the date the marriage tribunal accepted the case.

I was told that I could go to Reconciliation, receive First Holy Communion, and be Confirmed and that my husband could receive Communion IF we abstained from sex until after the annulment was granted and our marriage was convalidated. In many chats no one, not our priest or the Sister who is also helping us, has mentioned living separately or not showing affection such as kissing, hugging, hand holding, cuddling, etc. We were simply told we could agree not to have sex, go to Reconciliation, and proceed forward with my conversion and my husbands return to the Sacraments or continue having sex and wait until the situation was resolved.
