That’s true. I will have to put a higher priority on it. It’s the $$ that has been the challenge being a single mother without support. Thanks for the reply.
Money should never be the issue. Have you talked to the Tribunal about the cost? Most Tribunals have a sliding scale or will wave the fee if you can not afford it. Please do not let the money issue stand in the way.

My MIL’s annulment took 13 years!!
She lives in England. Here in the U.S I think we are lucky.
I know you are venting but we need to remember it is not a right to get an annulment.

I believe I will be waiting on an annulment of my husband and his ex-wife in order for me to join the church. I really hope I do not have to wait 3 years exspecially since this was not anything to do with me. This is my first marriage and I was not catholic at the time we were married. I hope there will be a shorter version for us.

Unfortunately, it still has “nothing to do with you.” As a Catholic, he was simply not free to marry you in the church until he received a Tribunal review and decision. As a non-Catholic at the time, you could not have known that, perhaps. But he certainly did.

I live in the Los Angeles county of Calif. I am positive that many people have applied for their annulments. L.A. County is a super large area with a large population.

I applied for an annulment in the month of Feb.09. I have no idea when I will get the annulment or if I qualify for an annulment. If I get bad news I plan to have my adult son there with me . If it is good news then we can celebrate. It was my son’s idea that I apply for the annulment. It was a lot of work but I got it done without the help of my ex-spouse.

My son told me the other day that his dad wants the annulment now and is angry that it is taking so long.lol. My son told my ex that he wasn’t willing to help out in doing the annulment paper work and that I had to do it all by myself. He told him to just wait and see what happens.

I don’t really care how long it takes because I don’t plan to marry again. I like being single.

The only advice I can offer is to trust in the Lord and leave it in His most Merciful Hands. I was away from the Church for awhile and during that time married my wife who was a divorced catholic. When we came back to the church she applied for an annulment . We just got word after 2 yrs of an affirmative decision from the first tribunal, now its on to the 2nd tribunal for the automatic appeal. I can very well understand the frustration of the long wait. We decided to refrain from going to Communion even though we have been living as brother and sister since applying for the annulment as we wish not to bring any hint of scandal to our parish. We both attend daily Mass and it is very difficult not to receive Our Lord in the Eucharist. But you know what, during this time my belief in the true prescense of Christ in the Eucharist has grown TREMENDOUSLY. Watching my wifes faith grow has been awesome. sorry for rambling but I will pray for you.

                                                                                      Gary

Holy Mother Church has said that it is not a bad thing and supports annulments with their tribunals, words of the Pope, etc. Divorce, where there was a valid marriage is not what God had in mind for marraige, however annulments are not divorces. They simply show that the Church has thoroughly investigated the “putative”/civil marriage and it was not a valid (in the eyes of God - and I trust the Church to decide that over myself) marriage.

I think the amount of time varies from diocese to diocese. The diocese I live in requires a year waiting period after the divorce before you can file for an annulment or a separation of 18 months prior to the divorce. My priest says that you send in a preliminary set of questions. These are sent in and reviewed for about 3 months. Then they let you know whether they think you might have grounds to believe that your marriage was invalid. They send you another packet of questions that is much longer. They review those papers. They interview your witnesses. They talk to you. Then they make a decision. All of that takes about 6 months. Then they send it to another diocese who makes the final decision. The final decision takes about a month, but our diocese is small and the other diocese is small, as well.

Be patient.🙂 Use this time to learn about what went wrong in the first marriage. Then study about God’s purpose for marriage and the habits of successful marriages.

Remain strong and God Bless.

For an uncomplicated annulment this diocese takes about 2 1/2 years. But the waiting time is God’s way of making sure you have healing time.
