where do I start, really would like to one day do it right and get married in the catholic church.

Thanks, just scared or maybe embarrased about what a failure I was at marriage, faith and understanding. Need to learn and understand my faith, I guess I grew up!

At the top of this page, up there at the right of the screen is the word “shop”. Click that and put “annulment” in the search box.

You will find a way to order Jimmy Akin’s booklet and should find it helps you better understand things.

The next step, as said above, call your Parish.

best place to start is with your parish priest, he is the only one who can advise you in your individual situation and he is the one to get the process started for you. every case is unique, so what you read here may not apply to you at all, so don’t judge your case by what happened to anyone else. God be with you in this process and hope you experience healing through it, as so many have done.

Thanks been feeling horrible trying to deal with this on my own. Will make an appointment with a priest to discuss my situation. Just feel totally embarrased about how ignorant I have been about my own faith. Really questioning my life and faith right now especially since I have 2 young boys being raised catholic.

“Seeking an Aunnulment with the Help of Your Catholic Faith” by Duquin is a helpful book if you’re Catholic…

Start with your parish priest. He’ll know what to do. Be prepared to wait for a year or two, maybe more. Lots of paperwork. In the end, it’s well worth it. Those who say annulments are wrong or worthless do so in contradiction of the official policy and teachings of the Catholic Church. Don’t be phased by their comments.

Thank you. Even if I never get another chance at happiness and sharing my life with someone again and it takes the rest of my time just making someone realize how wrong this was to take that sacrament, very young, naive and uneducated in the catholic faith. I am sure this is a lesson for me, a very very hard one. Brings a whole new meaning to leaps of faith 🤷

I had an annulment long ago.

You can talk to a priest or you can contact your Diocesan Tribunal Office.

First thing they have to do is find out is if your marriage could actually get an annulment. Remember this is not a divorce. Certain conditions have to apply.

You can PM me if you want.

My witness just got their paperwork questions this past week. I had a three week delay in June (another story, previous post) but I actually filed in May so it’s three months thus far. Would’ve been less obviously, had there not been a delay, but hey, at least things are happening.

Remember to pray, pray, pray…for the Tribunal, the priest assisting you, your witnesses…keep everyone covered in prayer.:signofcross:

Best wishes to you…

Does your divorce have to be finalized civil before you can apply for the church to consider your marriage nullified??

Might help if you use clear terms when you think about this.

You will be asking the Church to review your marriage to deternime it’s validity. The Church cannot “nullify” a marriage, what they can do is determine if your marriage was null, invalid, non-existant, on the day it took place.

In most cases you must have completed the civil divorce.

Give your Parish a call, you might want to talk to the Director of Religious Education or the person in charge of RCIA. They have helped many many people through the process.

thanks, you are right I don’t use the terms correctly because I am panicked about what my responsibilities are right now. I will try and word things better when asking questions.

I have to be fully divorced before proceeding.

Don’t panic!!!

Remember, Jesus wants you to come back to the Sacraments, Jesus loves your kids more than you do!

Talk to someone at your Parish, they want you back too 🙂

Prayers for you.
