I need some help on this one. I know someone who is planning on starting the RCIA process after Easter. This is the third friend I’ve had recently who has decided to join the Church. This person has a perplexing dilema and I’m not sure what he needs to do.

He was married in Catholic ceremony with a mass after Banns. He was not Catholic but lied telling the Priest that he was in order to have the marriage in the Church. Due to the situation at the time, being overseas and all, they waived the requirement for a copy of his record of Baptism.

Unfortunately the marriage ended in divorce as is often the case these days. His ex-wife has since re-married in a Church ceremony, but not Catholic. He has not re-married. He has asked me if he needs to get an annulment in order to enter the Church. As far as entering the church only, I don’t think he would. I know if he planned on re-marriage he would…

He has already advised the parish priest on this and they are waiting for an answer from the Tribunal. I was just wondering if anyone out there might have actually had an experience like this or maybe have heard of something similar.

Thanks for any help on this. .
