Prior to each Cursillo weekend our Cursillo leaders participate in an “Anointing Mass”. After communion, the leaders gather around the altar and are anointed (with oil I’m assuming - and I’m assuming by a priest but not sure) and then other Cursillistas file up and lay their hands on them and pray for them.

This is something I’ve not heard of before - I’ve never been to one of these Masses, but someone was telling me about it. Has anyone else ever heard of an “Anointing Mass” like this or attended one?

It sounds like a dangerous playing with Pentecostal spirituality to me.

What is conferred in this anointing and imposition of hands by laymen that is not conferred in the Eucharist and other Sacraments?

On the other hand, since I’m getting this second hand, I can’t really make a worthwhile evaluation.

The second hand information thing is ALWAYS dangerous.

Done as described though sounds like a no no.
