I was in the Holy Sepulchre Church last year and I am still having a problem grasping where the anointing stone is in relation to Calvary. Is there a diagram showing the anointing stone for Jesus in relation to Calvary?
The stone is on the first level and we walked up the stairs to the Calvary site.

I’m looking for a cross section diagram so I can visualize it better in my mind.

Thank you.

The anointing stone NOW is pretty much in between Calvary and the Holy Sepulchre. Calvary was up the stairs…as you come down the stairs and start heading toward the Holy Sepulchre, the anointing stone is just to the left, in the middle of that large atrium.

See this picture, which was taken up the stairs approaching Calvary…the Holy Sepulchre then is near the "top of the photo, around the corner to the right if you will.

We were just there a month ago.

OK.
When you walk into the church, the stone is directly in front of you. To the right are the stairs to go up to Calvary. The stairway doesn’t go straight up but curves around a bit. That’s why I am confused. Is Calvary directly above the stone or is it closer to the door?
Yes. I know the level of today’s Jerusalem is lower than during Jesus’ time.

Thanks.

As you come in the door…Calvary is immediately to the right, up the stairs. Remember there are two sets of stairs to get to or come back from Calvary.

So the stone is right out in the middle of the “atrium” or the first area you enter from the front door. It’s between Calvary to your right, and the tomb or edicule to the left, around the corner.

Forgive my manners. I forgot to thank you for the info. The diagram did help me get my bearings at the Holy Sepulcher Church.
