Eileen McNamara takes her shot at the Vatican in today’s Boston Globe. She complains that the policy barring gays in the priesthood is wrong and very narrow in it’s scope because of a failure to address heterosexual priests who abuse females. Once again, these columnists fail to look at the whole picture and if they would read the policies themselves and the Church’s response on addressing abuse in general they will see that strict guidelines for all seminarians with a special emphasis on a healthy psycho-sexual formation should and ultimately will address all concerns…but of course, then they wouldn’t have anything to rant about. Her argument reminds one of the gay pride parade signs that read, “What Jesus said against homosexuality,” with the rest of the sign being blank.

By her logic, were the Church to, say, publish a document condemning theft, they would be guilty of failing to condemn bearing false witness.

But I’m getting a bit carried away, perhaps, in expecting cogent logic from any major media organ in North America these days.

Blessings,

Gerry

I read the whole thing and I don’t think she knows what she would like for the Church to do.
