George Will, of all people, asked the rhetorical question:

Has the Catholic Church Committed the Worst Crime in American History?

I mean, it’s pretty hard to top “slavery” and any of the number of genocidal atrocities committed against the native people here, but it’s getting close.

And for certain, the Catholic Church has committed the worst crime in history against the Catholic Church.

I am pretty much of the opinion the only way out is to select a pope who was ordained a priest after these scandals came to light - so like, since the beginning of the decade - and then empower him to slash and burn. Everyone in authority is out, regardless of provable guilt. Wipe the slate clean. Start over. Everyone given authority must pass an extensive Interpol-led background check, at the Church’s expense.

I am of the opinion that schools and other churches and religions have some of this too. We are generally bigger than the other religions but not the schools. I do not mind George Will asking this though. We should get to the facts. Honestly, we don’t hear about school systems getting sued that much.

I follow a priest’s blog and twitter. He commented on something that just happened in India as well.

Why has he still not yet been laicized and/or ex-communicated?

Is there events going on within the Vatican to reflect “zero tolerance” here?

In the past it has been acknowledged . . . “We showed no care for the little ones”.

How about now?

How about showing care for the little ones today?

How about doing the right thing here and either clearing this bishop, or removing him from the clerical state and jailing him?
 
This goes deeper than abusing children.
This was a teenager, whose abuse continued well into adulthood.
It is a prime example of the abuse of power and victim blaming that has brought this situation to crisis levels.

I thought that people were saying that all these types of charges occurred forty or fifty years ago?
