I just looked in on CARM and they’re still being ignorant and rude to all Catholics. I don’t know if I’ll post there anymore or not. Like I said earlier, they’re not interested in a discussion, they just want to fight.

Thanks. I read it. Slick does have one point, in that ā€œMother of Godā€ does imply Mary came before God.
No, it doesn’t. Mary is a creature. It’s not possible for her to have come before.

You know Mary’s title does not imply the impossible. Don’t allow yourself to be so easily swayed.

Like everything else in our faith, one must understand these things in context. The title of Theotokos was given to Mary to emphasize that Jesus was both fully God, and fully man. All the Marian doctrines are rooted in Christology.

It has always been the teaching of the Church that Christ was begotten, not made.

I’m not saying that that’s what we mean or are implying, I’m saying that’s what it sounds like.

It’s surprising that nobody takes them up on their Sola Scriptura shenanigans. They’d all be dead in the water if somebody did.

Tried. This Atemi guy dodged right past the question. They are very good at picking their battles.

I have a feeling they’re all this stuck up and yet also unable to truly justify themselves. Sad, really.

Slick has no understanding of the concept. He is not thinking the ramifications of his stance through.
If we say Mary is simply the mother of Jesus, we are denying the Divinity of Jesus.
Does Slick not believe that Jesus is God? Or does Slick believe Jesus was born a human and became God or close to God later? Does Slick subscribe to one of these early heresies?

What does Slick believe about who Jesus is?
What do you believe about who Jesus is? This is a serious question to you, @Hope1960
Was Jesus born fully human and fully Divine?

No, what book, verse?
I’ve read both of these, very informative…

Haven’t read this one yet but it’s on my list…

For me anyway, it is pretty easy to see in this day and age that you can take any document and make it say whatever you want it to say. And I’m not just talking about the Bible, go to a court room and just see how those lawyers spin the meaning of what someone says and what they meant. Anyway, if you don’t first know where the Bible came from then you have no way of coming to your decision if it is the Catholic Church who is giving you the correct interpretation of if it is the student pastor you have been talking to.

I have a thought for you. Maybe the next time you meet with the student pastor you can nicely say to him…

I’ve been reading the Bible for many years now and I have not come to many of the same conclusions that you have been presenting to me. Could you help me out and provide me with some evidence, that you were given the final say on what these verses mean, this way I can have absolute certainty that your interpretation is the correct one and mine is not.

I would love to know his response, because I’ve personally never been given one. The person either insists they are right and I am wrong or that I am just blindly following the Catholic Church. If he insists that you are blindly following the Catholic Church tell him if this is so help me not do this by providing me with the evidence that I should be following you.

Hope this help,

God Bless

I’m wondering what they would say if they saw this thread.

Many have challenged them on the sola scriptura belief. They have an ā€œanswerā€ to anything and everything, an answer that satisfies them. ā€œDebatingā€ with them is interesting up to a point, and painful after that point. Jesus wept over Jerusalem; denominationalism is a horrible tragedy. As if we do not need another manifestation of sin among those who profess faith in Jesus.

Challenges to their faith, however, must be carefully interwoven into a defense of the Catholic faith, or be prepared for the post to be deleted or moved. Their rules required Catholic defenses or anti-Catholic challenges on the ā€œCatholicā€ forum - anti-protestant challenges do NOT belong there, and will be deleted or moved, if a CARM member flags it. So Catholics are fixed into defense, no offense on that forum.

I’m wondering what they would say if they saw this thread.
This is perhaps the most intelligent post on this thread for who is ā€œtheyā€? I myself am not one of them, neither am I one of you so does that make me a ā€œtheyā€?
