Another "Choosing a patron saint" question

I had the hardest time picking a patron saint (Baptism, confirmation, communion last Easter…and then married my wife and did the sacrament of penance two weeks later! 5/7 sacraments in 2 weeks!). I should have prayed on it more than I did. I didnt want to pick a popular saint…just not so much my style.

Anyways I chose Saint Hubert (Saint Hubertus). His conversion story was great! Along with that he is the patron saint of many activites that I can appreciate.

Does anyone know of any saints who struggled at some point with the Calvinist doctrine of “double predestination” and wondered if they were predestined to hell (besides St. Francis de Sales)?

Considering your name perhaps you should choose St John Nepomucene.

The Patron Saint of: DihydrogenMonoxide. There are certain dangers to be aware of:

• Athletes use dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO) to enhance performance.
• Thousands die each year after inhaling DHMO.
• DHMO is intoxicating if mixed with small quantities of ethanol.
• DHMO has been discovered in significant quantities in rivers, lakes, oceans and streams.
• Residual DHMO remains on fruits and vegetables after washing.
• Symptoms of ingestion or contact with liquid DHMO include shivering and sweating.
• Gaseous DHMO causes severe burns.
• Solid DHMO has been linked with frostbite and car accidents.

Yes, it’s a wonder more people don’t know about the threat. 😛

:rotfl: I think Rush Limbaugh pulled this prank on his radio show once…it lead to bans in some areas on styrofoam containing this deadly ingredient.

I think choosing a Saint that you can relate to is nice, but sometimes you just feel close to a certain Saint for one reason or another. My Confirmation Saint is St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (St. Edith Stein). I knew I was going to choose Theresa as my Confirmation name in honor of my great-great Aunt (who was Sister John Berchman) and another great-great Aunt who was Sister Teresita. I read up on all of the Saint Theresas (or Teresas) I could find. Her story sounded so much like me and kind of fit because in my spiritual path I stopped off at Judaism at one point and she had been raised Jewish.
I went to a relics show a couple of weeks ago and got to see one of her 2nd class relics. It was kind of like meeting someone you had been pen-pals with!

Cool! I’m glad you were able to experience that.

My b’day falls on January 15, which is the feast day for St. Paul the hermit. Am I correct in my calculations? Incidentally, I am kind of a hermit myself.
