I know that when confessing our sins that normally we only need to name the sin, not get into graphic details about it, unless the priest asks for clarifying details. My question is this, when it comes to the sin of masturbation is it sufficient to simply say that one committed this sin or are certain details required? For instance, revealing if one masturbated vaginally, anally, using adult “toys”, etc.? Or since this all falls under the general sin of masturbation are the details more or less irrelevant unless the priest asks for clarification? Thanks.

I confess this sin when i go, I have never been asked to specify (maybe because Im a guy, but that is unimportant). I do not think that it will matter. The sin is no less destructive if it uses toys and the other things you mentioned. It falls under one category

I’ve always just said “I masturbated” and as far as I know that’s all you have to say. I don’t think any of the things you listed would make it any more or less sinful.
