another confession question

I know there are many of these types of questions on here but I really need some advice on this. I tend to have some scrupulous tendencies and after doubting the validity of many of my past confessions I made a general confession 2 weeks ago with the intention of leaving the past in the past. I confessed all I could remember and was ok until this morning when I think I committed a mortal sin. I was fortunate to find confession on Christmas eve and there was no line but I still felt like I didn’t want to take up too much of the priest’s time, start getting scrupulous, etc. so I just confessed my sin and others since my last confession and didn’t confess the forgotten sins from the general confession (some I am pretty sure are mortal) even though I remembered them this time. I did confess these sins in confessions before my general confession 2 weeks ago (not sure of validity of all those confessions). Now I am starting to worry that I made a bad confession again. I was so happy I was able to confess but now I’m not sure again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Think about what a general confession means. If something comes up and your worried about it then confess it. To worry about something you may not have remembered is worrying that Christ is unable to forgive you for something you’ve already forgotten. That is the very purpose of the general confession.
 
Thanks for the reply. I think you may have misunderstood. I forgot some sins in the general confession and just went again today for a different sin and remembered those forgotten sins but didn’t confess them.
 
Kinda sounds to me like you confessed everything, you don’t need to confess sins more than once.🙂
 
At the time of your General COnfession you confessed to the best of your knowledge and thus all the sins prior to that are forgiven.

I had a general confession about a month ago and at the end I added and for all the sins I may have forgotten I offer up in this confession.

Sure, I remember some sins after the general confession and you can say sorry again if you want or when you go to confession again just say at the end a sin from your past and be done with it.

We all have to remember at times that Christ isn’t waiting to pound us into oblivion. He knows what is in your heart and when the priest says you are forgiven you are. Be happy, dance, etc. I

You need to relax and experience the mercy of God. ALL of your sins are forgiven during your absolution and need not be confessed unless you DELIBERATELY failed to mention them. IF you remember a sin then you can mention it in your next regular confession so that it is brought to the keys of the Church. BUT you can still receive the Eucharist and you are NOT in the state of mortal sin.

You are being scrupulous and I know that well since I have been where you are and continue to question the mercy of God and my ability to recognize that His love is infinitely greater than any sin that I could commit.

I pray that you find peace this Christmas and know that God loves you way more than you could possibly love yourself and that is why we are harder on ourselves that He is. It’s good to keep ourselves in check but satan would want nothing more than for us to think that we are always separated from God. Let’s let satan know that we will NEVER be separated from God. You do well, my friend so keep up the good work. Pray for me. God bless… teachccd 🙂
 
Thank you for your replies. I’m just really worried because when I did remember I didn’t confess it. I do intend to the next time I go but just didn’t want to make it a long confession because I always tend to do that.
 
Tell the priest you may be scrupulous and ask him to forgive all the sins you have told him, as well as all those you would tell him if you remembered them.

BTW I know this means nothing in terms of Church doctrine or teaching, but it does reflect Christian hope:

Having read your posts; if I were God I would forgive you right now, and I don’t even know you. God actually does know you, and has knit you together in your mothers womb, and has known and loved you since before you were born. What do you think God’s attitude towards you is?
 
A Sister told me this after I expressed concern over accidentally forgetting to mention sins after Reconciliation:

All venial sins are absolved during Reconciliation, as long as you name as many as you can and don’t skip any intentionally.

This is my first post… so I apologize if it’s slightly irrelevant.

If you don’t have one already, I would highly recommend finding a spiritual director to help you with your scrupulosity. If your director is not a priest try to find a regular confessor that can help guide you through things. You are in my prayers.

a regular confessor is a must for one with such difficulties…such is the age old approach. Find a Priest you can lay your problems before him and follow his direction (unless of course he tells you murder is ok or something like that!..but I think you will know such :))
