Is the bread the Eucharist in the tabernacle? If so, what’s the point of the consecration at Mass?
There is usually at least a few consecrated hosts in the tabernacle. It allows Jesus to always be present in the church. It also means if the church would like adoration, the priest doesn’t need to perform a consecration. It is also nice to have if the priest has to bring communion to shut-ins or someone dying. Is the bread the Eucharist in the tabernacle? If so, what’s the point of the consecration at Mass?

Well the simple answer is that the priest (and any concelebrants) need to receive hosts (i.e. bread) consecrated at that mass. After that it gets a bit messy. The faithful participating in that mass should, at least ideally, also receive hosts consecrated at that mass - “fresh Jesus” as I like to call itIs the bread the Eucharist in the tabernacle? The Mass - specifically the consecration - is our participation in the sacrifice of Calvary. It’s the most perfect and highest form of worship. That’s why there’s always a consecration. It’s how we worship God.Is the bread the Eucharist in the tabernacle? If so, what’s the point of the consecration at Mass?

Right. Without the consecration, it would not be the Mass—only a Communion service.Good question, so let’s look at it bit by bit.
The Eucharist is the reason for the Mass and the focal point of it. You can have a valid Mass without a reading, without a homily, without singing, without a collection, without a closing prayer, but you cannot have a valid Mass without a consecration. So in answer to your question, the point of the consecration is that without it, there is no Mass.
In some Churches, they only consecrate enough bread so that there is none left over at the end of Mass. In most Churches, extra bread is consecrated and those extra hosts are kept in the Tabernacle for use as TruthSeeker described.
Even if there were 1,000 extra consecrated hosts in the Tabernacle and 10 people at Mass, there would still need to be a consecration.
Hope that helps a little bit. Keep asking questions. God bless you on your journey.
