They fought a battle for liberation way back in 718/722, I mean, that is really, really going back.

I’m still familiarizing myself with this topic but I thought I’d post the live webcam. It’s quite a story and I’ve got lots of reading to do. Perhaps, someone here knows of this?

The Shrine seems to be in gratitude to the Blessed Virgin for her intercession. I don’t believe this is about an apparition. So, I just wanted to state that.

Thank you. I have never heard of this shrine before.
I lived in Spain many years ago so this is veey interesting.

This is a most beautiful shrine that hold a very special place in the hearts of Catholic Spaniards. It was here that the “Reconquista” is judged to have started when the Visigoth Catholic King Pelayo had the first victory of note against the Muslims in about 722 and began the process of freeing the Iberian peninsula from the Moors who were eventually driven back 760 years later over the Staights of Gibraltar and into North Africa. It has many pilgrims despite not being widely promoted in the Church outside of Spain (I suspect due to current political views of certain church officials) and the Shrine to Our Lady is in thanksgiving for her aiding Pelayo when he was almost facing defeat and for an event that had almost incalculable ramifications and the saving of souls (not least in the Americas and Far East) I have been several times and it is situated in the most beautiful area of Spain. Here are a few links to sites giving further information. Viva España!

Thanks all, really, I have to say, the feed apparently stopped but hopefully, it will be back on soon. Other than that, I must get a bit more sleep.

Thanks, especially to IanM for the background. I will have to read all of this more on Friday.

Some video footage and further background to this place:

The whole of this area of Spain is very beautiful and contains much of interest to Catholics. Nearby is the city of Oviedo which, contains the Sudarium which many believe to be the face cloth of Our Lord from the tomb.

http://www.frtommylane.com/homilies/pilgrimage/sudarium.htm

Further to the East in Santander lies the village of San Sebastián de Garabandal which is famous for events in the early 1960`s which some believe to be Marian apparitions. From personal experience I can say that this is a very powerfully “atmospheric” village and I was lucky enough to briefly meet Conchita Gonzalez (one of the visionaries) who was back home on holiday from the USA some years ago when I visited it.

Finally to the west in Galicia is Santiago de Compostela with the tomb of St. James. I am sure many here will have seen the film “The Way” starring Martin Sheen, so I need not add much more.

6:30 AM CST, USA, the video where I am seeing it on youtube has a daily mass going on so the camera view does change sometimes. And there I do see this above as well; so, just letting people know, it is not that same view all the time. I watch a few other webcams of Catholic sites as well. Lourdes probably being the most famous one.

Hi! Thank you so much for sharing! Will you please share the links to those other sites, too? For those of who can’t travel, these sites are not only inspiring, but our tickets to other places. ❤️❤️❤️

Humbly speaking, let’s see, other webcams.

Lourdes:

Poland: The Star of the Immaculate, World Centre of Prayer for Peace in Niepokalanów - live streaming: (there are a few of these special “world centres for peace”, this one in the above Polish town/ci9ty of Niepokalanow (which has some history with St. Maximilian Kolbe.

Lithuania or Poland, Jasna Gora or “Jasna Góra Klasztor Ojców Paulinów – transmisja na żywo” (sometimes, pilgrimages, special events are in this Chapel.

I just found this one, “Marytown Illinois, live adoration chapel”, that just started last December it sounds like, so my point is, there seem to be quite a few of these places. It’d be neat to have a listing.

So, really, there are a number of these webcams. I hope I didn’t write too much.

Back to Covadonga, Spain, the Eurcharist, looks like a ceremony currently. Pardon me, this does not seem to be a live stream 24/365 webcam. I will leave it up though.

I believe I had another one from Poland in the past and also, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico.

Thank you, so much! I, for one, am thrilled with this info! It’s so helpful for those of us who aren’t very tech-savvy to share the results of your finesse! 😇

I wish we had a special CAF section for information like this that would always be available for everyone, but especially for those wanting to strengthen their faith, for those converting, and for guests. Lol! One can’t very well search for something like this if one has no idea that such resources exist.

@cawebmaster —Please think about it: Is such a category possible? The contents of the category would be determined by the moderators or a committee of very well-informed members, and include essential and pivotal information for those seeking more information about Catholicism, such as this thread info, interesting tidbits of Church history, book and movie lists, etc. IE, instead of a category in which there is conversation, a category for imparting provocative information. Viewers could continue with threads, as usual, to get answers for questions regarding the info and films in this new “Essential Information” category. Please consider it. 😇

A list is good but if one cruises youtube, it is neat to find new webcams, I had no idea Marytown, Illinois had such a webcam though, I have seen that chapel in some of their information that they send out.

Marytown is basically, the home to the Militia Immaculata in the USA of St. Maximilian Kolbe. There may be another organization that has it in North America as well.

Marytown, Libertyville Illinois, I am coming up with both names.

Here is another deal if one provided a list of webcams, they often change.

See Lourdes above? The youtube link has changed, now it is this one:

But the prior link has stopped working.

I’ve checked into watching Lourdes for a fairly long time, I use to go to the Lourdes site, I’m not sure it was on youtube.

So, we are nearly into February and I see no snow there. I think usually at this time of year, they have some snow.

A few adoration webcams as well on youtube.

@Victoria33

I thank you so much for these webcam videos—it’s the next best thing to visiting for those of us who don’t have the opportunity to explore on our own . You’re our Travel Angel! 😇

That’s very kind, I don’t know if I deserve that… but I happened to come across another one. It’s in the USA, it might not be a place of pilgrimages but I love how this chapel is set up, the mural on the wall and obviously, a fairly modern design.

Chicago Jesuit (academy), one can look up a translation for themselves, the title is in Polish.

Oh, I just noticed, in the middle of the front alter, between the trees, is a crib holding the baby Jesus.

And here, from Doral Florida, Eucharistic adoration at the church of Our Lady of Guadelupe. There are a few of these kinds of webcams of the Blessed Sacrament. Sometimes, if I am not really using the computer, I will open up one of these websites and let it stay open.

Okay, one must go to youtube to watch it. There is a church in Arizona that has a webcam of the Blessed Sacrament too often, all the time.

What types of search words or phrases do you use? Do you use them, + the name of a country, in order to find these?

I think I first searched for “Lourdes webcam” and I’ve done some searches on Poland or Polska and maybe “Eucharistic Adoration” too.

I really appreciate your sharing information like this, as I’m Internet deficient, to say the least. Thanks, bunches! I’ll try using shrine names + webcam & see what happens.

My son went on a webcammed fishing trip on one of the Great Lakes, and family in 5 states got to watch whenever we were free. It felt like we were there, too. Loved it!

February 11th is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. The grotto has been very busy, rosaries every day. I believe the related videos call the rosary in French, “chapelet”, chaplet.

Midnight, Central Time last night which has to be 6 or 7 AM in Lourdes and there were a bunch of people there. It’s really busy now.

And as usual, the link seems to at some points, stop working and it moves on to another, so just websearch “webcam” and “Lourdes” at youtube and you can surely find it.

I have to say, a number of the pilgrims seem to feel and touch the rock beneath the statue of Our Lady. I’ve touched the screen a few times. We do have a Church nearby that does have a Lourdes Grotto as part of the Church. It’s a drive but not a major trip to go there.
